Doesn’t matter if he did say something off the record, really. It’s his name on a statement that would have impact, if there’s any to be had. He’s pretty much the perfect distillation of institutional Washington’s response to Trumpism.

I get it…free all the people indicted and that vindicates trump as having anything to do with it…um Ok…if youre a dumb as trump thinks you are…the fact that trump called putin to boast about his DOJ releasing flynn can only mean that trump aint stopping till manafort is freed and magnitsky is repealed…
Also remember that after barr repealed the indictments of all those involved in iran contra the GOP as a whole lost their collective asses in the next election…just sayin…

Robert A.Heinlein wrote a book called Podkayne of Mars. Set in the future, the main characters included adolescent Podkayne and her younger (brilliant) brother, Clark. Having grown up on Mars, they wound up on Venus.
Not to belabor our group here with the plot, I can say that, while the bulk of the book was written featuring Podkayne in the first person, a section at the end featured Clark, finishing up in the first person as well. And it underscores the differences between cheerful, amiable Podkayne and Clark, far more of a matter-of-fact person.
And he said this:
"Poddy’s (Podkayne) greatest weakness–the really soft place in her head, she’s not too stupid otherwise–is her almost total inability to grasp that some people are as bad as they are. Evil. Poddy has never understood evil. Naughtiness is about as far as her imagination reaches.

I so much wish that all people (including Trumpsters) truly understood the existence and nature of Trump’s evil.

We are in the worst economy since the Great Depression. A pandemic is running rampant. The severity of both is due in great part to Trump and his strong campaign argument is about his treasonous conspiracy with Russian espionage to steal the 2016 (and soon 2020) election?
Desperation tactics.

On that birtherism that gave Trump so much press, I saw Trump asked just how was that Obama’s birth announcement was in the newspaper back when he was born (hardcopies of the Honolulu paper are archived, so there’s no denying that). Trump’s answer was that people would do that just to give their kid a leg up: someone in Kenya would place a birth ad in a newspaper to have this type of proof when their child is born. I haven’t seen any statistics on that, but surely the odds are low that anyone born in Kenya might figure on running for president one day!
