A nice piece of evidence for this interpretation lurks in his own words: “they know it [that they are stupid] and their families know it.” Where did the “families” reference come from? It’s irrelevant in the political context.
Keep in mind too that in the 1950’s, when Trump went to elementary school, there was no understanding of specific intellectual deficits like dyslexia and dyscalculia. They showed up as soon as you hit 1st grade and were lumped into “stupid”.
