Trump Goes All In For North Carolina Ninth District Special Election

President Donald Trump will hold a rally for the Republican candidate in North Carolina’s ninth district Monday night, directly inserting himself into a race that will be widely observed as a possible precursor for the 2020 elections.

After all the cheating that went on i really hope the Dem Candidate pulls off a victory tomorrow.

I love when they make these all-out efforts to squeak through and win a narrow victory in a district that never should have been competitive in the first place. When that’s a pattern across the country, you’ve already lost the war, dumbasses.

Guess we’ll see if the people of NC have had enough of all things tRump. It would be such a boost if they went for the Dem. and perhaps an indication for the election in 2020 which is an eternity away.

My brother in-law who lives in Upstate New York still loves the shit out of Trump. After the first 10-15 years they were together, we haven’t talked politics in the last 10 years at Thanksgiving.

He donates to charity, their family solely finances a free clinic for the community, he delivers meals on wheels. In general a ‘good guy’, but he loves his guns and he loves him some Trump.

This election also may be a kind of bellwether for the Democratic strategy. If McCready wins, it might just prove that he has a winning strategy that the Democratic presidential candidates should consider.

It’ll be interesting to see how much scenery-chewing he does tonight as his rapid decline becomes ever more visible. The most popular piece in “The Atlantic” right now is by Peter Wehner and it’s titled “Donald Trump Is Not Well.” Writers at The Atlantic have been talking about Trump’s obvious abnormality since before the election, and treat it as a given now, but this is a prominent voice joining the chorus of public calls for realism about the crisis.

The article seems intended to lower our expectations… Let’s hope the Democrat pulls this one out.

I don’t talk politics with anyone in the family. The only liberal was my step father that’s no longer with us. My mother, my sibs, forget it. Don’t know how I turned out the way I did growing up in a conservative, military community, but got the traveling bug in my early 20’s and think that changed things.

It’s North Carolina, a state that already leans “R”, and a state (and district) that are gerrymandered to a fair-thee-well.

As @mattinpa noted above, this is a race that should never have been competitive in the first place. My hope (like yours) is that McCready pulls it out. I’m not going to be terribly surprised if he loses it, though. It is a special election. Like all elections, turnout is key and turnout in specials is notoriously low. A low turnout favors the GOPIdiot.

I have the great luck that, with the exception of one nephew, my parents, sibs and their spouses, and, to the best of my knowledge their kids and spouses are all true blue. While they generally can’t talk with their neighbors and coworkers, we do have the family circle where we can bitch and moan at each other…

That probably did it. Last I read, 70% upwards of ex-pat Americans like me are Dems. I believe there are something like 7,000,000 of us right now, so that 70% represents a lot of votes. Dems abroad is very active and I have a number of friends through that org now.

You get out of the bubble, see what works in other countries and your eyes get opened very wide. After that, there’s no going back…

Gotta love a system that says, “oh, you were drugged up during the 100 meter sprint? Let’s just do that race over, shall we?”

This race is a bellwether for me. In one sense, we already know the result: this is going to be a very close race in a district that was designed for a Republican to win. It means the GOP weakness in the suburbs that we saw in 2018 is continuing and is getting worse.

But I’m not satisfied with that. I think if Trump and the GOP are as weak among white voters as a number of the major polls have claimed, then the Dems should win this race. Winning this race is about whether Dems break the 20 year uninterrupted GOP hold on white voters.

However, from the polling data, EV data, candidate quality and campaigns, McCready should be a slight favorite to win.

The race is not important in that it may give the Dems one more seat in the House but for what it tells us about 2020. McCready may have won the first time around so the trend was already indicated. If McCready wins, the GOP and Trump, in particular, will go into panic mode and it will be fun to watch. Trump will take it as a personal insult and he may start blaming his supporters for the loss.

This Bishop ad has such an interesting picture showing Pelosi, Sanders, and Ocasio-Cortez, as the ultra liberals he’s similar to.

There are many prominent Dempocrats that are at least moderately acceptable and popular in a state such as North Carolina. Why do we not read of any of them holding public events in North Carolina in support of McReady?

Is there any public polling data available? The most recent poll I can find is a week old, has Democrat McCready up 46-41 with 3% independent. Breitbart of course claims that poll oversamples democrats.

Nothing more hypocritical but humorous than a proven porn star and Playmate philander, Epstein buddy, fake Trump U student cheat and fake Trump charity donor cheat and self admitted puss grabber like the manically insecure world record Presidential serial liar Dirty Donny, making morality judgements. But Congressional Republicans, Evangelicals, and Trumpster’s can ignore, excuse, even accept the new Republican/Trump family values morality bottomless low bar without hesitation or embarrassment.
