Trump Gives Loyalists Ric Grenell, Hope Hicks, Pam Bondi Gigs On His Way Out | Talking Points Memo

Is there anyone stupid enough to take such advice?

I hear that Kayleigh will be chairing the new President’s Council on Mendacity.

Now in that case, she is perfectly qualified.

And in other news

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his erstwhile coalition partner, Blue and White leader Benny Gantz, sought to blame one another for the collapse of their seven-month-old government. “Blue and White withdrew from the agreements [to modify the original coalition agreement] and dragged us to unnecessary elections during the corona crisis,” said Netanyahu, who on Saturday evening became the first Israeli to receive the Covid-19 vaccine. "We do not want an election and we voted against it … but we are not afraid of elections – because we will win!"
… … …
Seems Netanyahu has no more sense of irony than trump does. Jared was there yesterday planting trees with Bibi…

It looks like Donnie doesn’t have much hope for the future of the Drumpf Organization; otherwise, he could have rewarded his loyalists with positions there…
Not with his friends’ companies, though. It’s gotta be clear by now that Donnie doesn’t have any friends to ask favors from, not unless he’s extorting the outcome he desires. (ed.)

The question, I think, is not what the normal term of the position is. The question is whether appointees in these positions serve at the pleasure of the President. Some of these positions could be consequential: for example, as you mentioned in another post, in Ezra Cohen-Watnick can do real damage as the chair of the Public Interest Declassification Board. However, if he serves at the pleasure of the President, the damage will likely be limited to just 30+ days.
(I suspect there is another route of limiting damage from someone in this particular position. A chair of the Public Interests Declassification Board can not do much damage if he loses clearance for access to classified information.)

He would not want these people on his payroll. He does like the thought of these people feeding at the public trough.

Not so sure about that: Hope Hicks was a long term affiliate of the Drumpf Org. If he’s not setting her up with his “enterprise,” something else’s in the works.
He may very well doubt his business will survive Letitia James’ inquiry.

Perhaps their co-directors - and the office staff - can just ignore them.

Oh, so sorry we forgot to copy you on that last memo!

“Oh too bad! Didn’t you see the sign up sheet for the Christmas party on the bulletin board?”

j/k

I don’t really approve of tactics like these.

If the Fulbright BOD is empowered to set evaluation and selection criteria for recipients, then it exerts influence over all fields through which scholars can receive Fulbright grants. And consequently, the BOD members ought to have some genuine academic and professional qualifications to be given their seats.

I would argue that his business is a backup to pay people he really needs when the public trough is not available. He did pay Hope Hicks in the past but he had no ability to give her a government paid job at the time.

I also do not disagree that he may doubt whether his business will survive. But if that is the case, he does not care about setting up Hope Hicks (or even Ivanka) for life, he only cares about them being silent.

I’ve seen that exact thing happen to shit for brains board members who got appointed based on who a parent was, etc.

Also, if any one of these vermin shredded any documents whatsoever, they can be excluded from ever holding an office of public trust.

I think you can make a strong argument in that direction, and would never try to defend the claim that Donnie would give the time of day for almost anyone else.

By law, the board of the Kennedy Center is a creature of the Smithsonian Institution. I mentioned the six-year term for a general trustee because that’s what the statute says:

(b) General trustees

The general trustees shall be appointed by the President of the United States. Each trustee shall hold office as a member of the Board for a term of 6 years, except that—

(1) any member appointed to fill a vacancy occurring before the expiration of the term for which the predecessor of the member was appointed shall be appointed for the remainder of the term;

(2) a member shall continue to serve until the successor of the member has been appointed; and

(3) the term of office of a member appointed before July 21, 1994, shall expire as designated at the time of appointment.

That’s the board to which Bondi is being appointed, and there’s nothing there about serving “at the pleasure of the President.”

Whereas elsewhere in the same statute an “Advisory Committee on the Arts” is set up whose members do, indeed, serve “at the pleasure of the President.”

Big deal! Biden can withdraw the appointments after Jan 20th, and if the scumbags don’t like it they can sue and, over a dragged out process, be bankrupted by legal fees.

If Ms. Hicks had any savvy and knows things he wants kept silent, she would likely not settle for one measly term on the FFSB!

To be honest, neither Hicks nor Huckabee Sanders will do much additional harm. As we speak, ten out eleven board members are Republican appointees.

If they are stupid enough to listen.
Apparently there are a significantly large minority of voters who are willing to lap up bullshit.

Do the terms of employment contain any stipulation about maintaining the good name of the office and institution they purportedly represent?
My contract (NYC DOE) has such in a moral’s clause, which of course serves a variety of functions for a teacher. If it’s there, it may provide a solution to Donnie’s appointees, particularly if the conduct of his administration comes under investigation. (ed.)
