OT: I bet David Perdue is really happy he lost last week. He’s probably all “Thank God for Jon Ossoff.”
[insert reference to ‘stiff breeze’ or ‘remaining limp’ here]
Not to pick nits, but I’m afraid you’ll need to be more specific.
382,000 dead of COVID. 2000>4000 more per day for months to come.
That movie was ahead of its time.
It really was.
I was thinking more of a municipal dump…where all the refuse goes to rest.
It was at the Capitol from the start because Pelosi has control of the building, but it took days before BLOTUS ordered it for buildings under his control.
Trump’s Fluffer in Chief says what?
The layers, subversion, and utter hilarity of this scene are brilliant. One of my favorite scenes from any movie ever made.
I presume he’s asking that rhetorically. He can’t possibly be that dumb.
Thanks. Hadn’t thought of that.
I only found out myself after people were complaining about Fat Nixon not ordering it…
Lindsey was a better statesman when he was drunk after the terror attack.
Oh, definitely rhetorical
Way, way past “damage” Graham, you cowardly and craven anti-American fuck.
It’s not like I don’t have work to do, but I’m going to annotate this statement all the same.
Supporting the impeachment of President Trump under these circumstances will do great damage to the institutions of government and could invite further violence at a time the President is calling for calm. If there was a time for America’s political leaders to bend a knee and ask for God’s counsel and guidance, it is now. The most important thing for leaders to do in times of crisis is to make things better, not worse.
The process being used in the House to impeach President Trump is an affront to any concept of due process and will further divide the country. The President, who will be leaving office in less than a week, has committed to an orderly transfer of power, encouraging calm and rejecting violence.
The House impeachment process seeks to legitimize a snap impeachment totally void of due process. No hearings. No witnesses. It is a rushed process that, over time, will become a threat to future presidents. As to Senate leadership, I fear they are making the problem worse, not better.
The last thing the country needs is an impeachment trial of a president who is leaving office in one week.
Democrats have already impeached the President once over a matter which was not worthy of that process. Now they seek to do it again, believing that this effort will wash for history the fact that the first impeachment was based on the thinnest of pretenses: a phone call with the leader of Ukraine. Impeachment should never be a ‘do-over,’ but that is what Democrats are seeking to do today.
To my Republican colleagues who legitimize this process, you are doing great damage not only to the country, the future of the presidency, but also to the party. The millions who have supported President Trump and his agenda should not be demonized because of the despicable actions of a seditious mob. The individuals who participated in the storming of the Capitol should be met with the full force of the law. They should and will be held accountable.
The hearing was televised live on 6 January 2021, and its witnesses were the millions of horrified citizens watching the frenzied mob rush the Capitol, overwhelm and beat the Capitol Police, rampage through the building, and threaten the lives of our Representatives.
We saw the Trump speech, we heard from co-conspirators Trump Jr. (“we’re coming to get you”) and Rudy Giuliani (“trial by combat”), and we heard the ringleader DJT ipse lie about a stolen election and urging his MAGA combatants to go change the Vice President’s mind by force and intimidation.
Impeaching DJT does no harm to any institution. It is undertaken to rebuke and halt continued harm by DJT.
This is not a time for our political leaders to “bend a knee” and ask for divine counsel. There’s been enough kowtowing already, and not enough independent and rational thinking.
DJT has not committed to a peaceful transfer of power nor discouraged violence nor encouraged calm. There is voluminous evidence that he has committed to the opposite of all that.
This is not a “snap impeachment,” “totally void of due process.” The word “snap” is used as a disparaging talking point, and the word “void” is not only falsely applied here but needlessly modified by the word “totally.” Nothing is partially void.
The first impeachment had much more to do with than a single phone call, as LG well knows. The second impeachment is not a do-over of the first impeachment, as he also well knows.
Nothing about this impeachment harms the future of the presidency. It protects that future by drawing a bright red line between acceptible and unacceptable presidential actions, and punishes the latter. Nothing about this impeachment “demonizes” Trump’s supporters or his agenda.
The problem of our age is people like LG speaking deceitfully and hyperbolically and undermining language and thought itself, replacing it with wild, undisciplined and destructive emotion whose only purpose is to confuse the public and stampede it in a direction it wouldn’t ordinarily go in if it were not overwhelmed and incapable of either thinking or communicating rationally.
