As I approach my 76th year, I still have a hard time fully accepting that I personally knew people who fought in WW I and thus were born before 1900 and personally know people who likely will be alive in 2100. My great uncle Felix fought in WWI in the Italian army and displayed a captured German helmet and other war “trophies” on his huge fireplace mantle at his family compound in Norristown, Pennsylvania. When we visited that branch of the family in the 1950’s and 60’s, the first thing we had to do was give Uncle Felix a kiss. My great nephew, Alexander was born in Portland, Maine this August. Another living face kissed. My life connects to over 200 years of living people.
For those who touched me, and whom I love, I defiantly declare my unequivocal, limitless and eternal condemnation of everything MAGA and my curse with the heat of 1000 suns of TSF, his spouse and spawns, his minions and enablers and every being who still supports him, aand especially with the heat of 1000 more sons, his jackboot masked American Gestapo and their law enforcement helpers. And I further pledge that I will fight TSF and his horde with everything I can muster until my death to crush them in the hope that those who live beyond me can build a better America than it has ever been. I will not surrender to doom and despair, no matter how weary the fight makes me because what my lifetime has shown is that under Reagan, we began to reverse the arc of our moral progress, lost our bearings pretty completely with Bush v. Gore, and plunged into the destruction of everything free, decent and good with the double installation of TSF. Anything built after we crush these fascists by those I love after I pass will be a better America than the one I’ve lived the majority of my life in, and as the second generation of immigrants from Italy and Hungary who came here in the wake of WW I, I love my country, irrevocably. I truly believe she will turn around and have a brighter future for the people who now know people who are alive now and people who will be alive for our tricentennial.
