I noticed an inaccuracy in the headline. I took the liberty of correcting it.
Just a quick reminder, Republican’ts in state legislatures (looking specifically at PA) made it ILLEGAL to count mail in ballots prior to Election Night.
They COULD be easily and efficiently counted in the week(s) before Election Day, while they’re otherwise just sitting around in the Election Boards’ offices, but NO!! ![]()

Mail-in ballots also tend to be counted later than Election Day ballots.
I’m a big fan of TPM’s coverage and analysis. Writing accurately about someone who is a bottomless pit of falsehood and fabrication presents unique challenges, which TPM mostly navigates adroitly. I have a disagreement with this headline, minor but worth mentioning, in the spirit of dialogue between people who agree on 99% of everything. It’s a fool’s errand to speculate about what Trump does or doesn’t believe, or whether he has an accurate mental picture of how the world works. Whatever he says, it’s ALWAYS said because he thinks it’s expedient, and there’s rarely anything more to it. He’s a bullshitter through and through. He doesn’t see any utility in accurate information, not when (as he sees it) bullshit and fabrications will do. It’s hard for responsibile journalists to really let all the implications of that sink in. Attributing beliefs to him, and then snarking about it - “ha ha, he thinks he tweeted them into changing the results, he doesn’t know how elections work” - is a mistake the mainstream media often makes, but TPM is usually beyond this. He’s not attempting but comically failing to say something accurate about elections. It’s not ignorance, willful or otherwise. Nothing Trump says is an expression of belief about how elections work. It’s just another fabricated Trumpturd flung out because he thinks it’ll help him. It would be more accurate to treat it as another instance of his utter degeneracy and bullshittiness, not some speculated example of ignorance.
The closest most of the media comes is saying “it’s just Trump being Trump,” which would be an accurate portrayal if the media also acknowledged that, as you said, Trump is nothing other than a degenerate bullshitter.
Uranus.
ETA. Stop thinking dirty. It’s because it’s the furthest away.
It is strange that the president loves tariffs, 4% inflation, unstable bond markets and a widening trade deficit. It’s almost like he’s trying to burn it all down in his madness. It will interesting to see what things look like in August after the cage fights, soccer and SpaceX IPO bread and circus.
The Iran War Cost Tracker is also tracking some indirect costs like burden on consumers.
IMO if TRUMP had his way all elections would be called as soon as the TRUMP preferred candidate is ahead.
Sure: It’s always the sinister workings of that villainous gang called “They” and “Them,” which is responsible for all the evil in the world.
OH goody we won again

Iran announces closure of Strait of Hormuz after US attacks | Reuters

Dude’s in free fall.
even the CEO thing has to be qualified. He runs it like he’s the CEO of a private company with only co-criminals on the board.
A public company has shareholders (citizens) who elect board members (congress) and the board can fire the CEO if he is destroying the company or going rogue and not executing the boards decisions.
granted, some boards essentially allow the CEO to act like a king. That is a broken system of governance too.

Don’t host a World Cup. FIFA is at least as corrupt and arrogant as TSF.
Counting of mail-in ballots should start on Election Day. All of the preparation (opening envelopes, checking signatures, etc.) should happen ahead of time, but no counting until the day.
The problem is that if you count votes there is a chance that interim totals will leak: there will be people who know what the count is, and some of those people might be partisan count observers. If memory serves, what the PA legislature banned was all the preparatory work leading to the count.
The fact that he is a terminal asshole is a convenient bonus.
Trump, along with the conservative apparatus have no use for majority rule as they understand full well they are a minority. All of their actions are geared toward retaining white Christian conservative domination of the levers of wealth and power despite their minority status. They have zero intention of sharing the levers of wealth and power with us the majority.
It’s so frustrating to me that there aren’t elected Democrats and active candidates who take this position! How difficult is it to come out and say, “After spending 10 plus years lying about voter fraud it’s clear that Donald Trump is either to stupid to understand how votes are counted or he thinks his supporters are too stupid to understand that he’s lying to them.”
That said, it’s also time to address lengthy vote count periods. There are ways that states with higher absentee voter rates can ensure that results are coming out in a timely manner. Allow pre-election day absentee ballot preparation/review so that on the day ballots are ready to run through the scanners. Hire more election workers, run multiple shifts around the clock, and/or allow more overtime pay. Look at what other states are doing to address these issues and create a template that can be implemented across the country.
