GOP (and Russian trolls?) has succeeded in turning COVID19 into a culture war. It’s no longer about doing the right thing for the country, these protesters don’t give a fuck about that. It’s about fighting back against the other side in pursuit of what they believe is defending their ‘constitutional rights’ (which aren’t being touched). Take a look at any right wing sub/website/twitter account. It’s all the same shit, the libs want to shut us down and we won’t let them! It’s not about keeping people healthy, it’s about them ‘fighting the libs’. Every Dem on TV needs to start their segments by loudly saying this. In a time of crisis the right-wing decided to fight rather than come together.

I would be very concerned about the protests. I would encourage democrats not to oppose protests as they present a bigger risk than death by COVID. I would be particularly concerned if I were a person of color because the christian conservatives and white nationalists in the Republican party are involved in this. It might be prudent to make measures for self-defense and stand one’s ground but stay home and as far away from these Republican extremists as possible. Any confrontation could be quite dangerous.
These rebellious protests and de facto coup have the support of the Russian Welfare Queen that is our President but more importantly Erik Prince, who is funding these protests, has highly trained private military teams, access to intelligence agents, armored personnel carriers, explosive munitions and weapons of mass destruction that he could unleash on those he considers enemies.

Even plenty of gun owners. The ones I know have long refused to sell or trade guns with people who don’t either go through a background check or have a concealed weapons permit (which requires one).
It’s not exactly controversial in the way that certain people think. The responsible gun owners have no interest in their toys getting into the hands of people who they wouldn’t trust.

I’d like to see a lot more coverage of the empty streets and full residential parking lots of the millions staying home than focusing on 50 or 100 people who venture out in a daring protest.
Someone give me a call when they muster up a few tens of thousands, until that point, it’s all just a show.
