I think in the long term/run humans can’t hold on to lessons learned from the past, they are more concerned with the here and now. And I think this is recent, I think our ancestors could retain knowledge learned over generations, just not any more.
I brought up Joplin because it’s more local than wildfires out west and sea level change in FL. If I’m remembering correctly before Joplin OK experienced a really devastating tornado event. Some children and a teacher were killed or injured when it when through a school. The next year there was vote to start requiring or retrofitting storm shelters in schools, it didn’t pass.
I keep hoping for the best and steel myself for the worst.

Major crises, unfortunately, tend to give rise to even more crazy religious millennialism. Wouldn’t surprise me to see covid spark a long term uptick in evangelical numbers. Especially among latinos who have been so badly hit by the pandemic.

Any healthcare worker, nurse or doctor who works in these red states which refuse to implement methods to reduce transmission is just NUTS.
I think you may have stumbled onto something. If healthcare workers simply resigned and moved to places where the people are willing to work to stem the virus, that actually might make these red-state morans think twice.

Trump’s complicity with Putin is something that I hope never gets lost in the history books.
