I’m sure Putin would rather deal with someone who isn’t an idiot, but I’m also more than sure he knows Trump is the useful kind. Too useful to let go.

See the problem here? We can’t keep “falling"short” of naming the problem and indicting the wrongdoers. Nancy Pelosi said about her WH/Republican counterparts that the nation might be mistaking them for people who give a damn. Period. Full stop. We’re in that kind of an arena now. Just tell the truth and let the chips fall.

Club members were on hand at the presser, in full defiance of state COVID mandates of <25 persons, masks required, social distancing. They booed a reporter who questioned the lack of masks, and Trump defended the members, “I’d call it a peaceful protest because they heard you were coming up, and they know the news is fake.”
Staff later handed out masks, and many donned them.
Late edit: Trump claimed that “it looks like they all have masks on” and pointed to “an exclusion in the law”
“No, they don’t have to. It’s a political activity. You’re wrong on that because they have exceptions for political activity. It’s also a peaceful protest.”

there’s some truth to that - however, I think Putin would be just as happy to have billy low barr, or pompeo, or rudy or, pence the holy, or david duke as his happy stooge to name just a few. They’re all evil like the abomination, but they’re all much smoother and smarter than he is (ok, maybe not rudy or mike the holy pence).

I am pretty close to endlessly infuriated by this story in all of its aspects.
First you’ve got my ready-for-pasture Senator Grassley, who, as Maddow summed up last night, is a willing participant in laundering Derkach’s smears into our political ecosystem. And who will pay no price for doing so.
Then the intelligence community’s report, which makes an equivalence between Russia, China and Iran in their DESIRE to influence our election, allowing them to bury the lede that only ONE of those countries is actually engaged in active undermining and interference. But when the story filters down through the media, as it did from ABC News to my local station last night, the story runs: China, Iran, (and Russia!) all want to influence our election! And, since China apparently prefers Biden, hey Both Sides! Double technical, no foul.
I am very, very worried.

How is it that these “press conferences” aren’t more properly seen as campaign events?
I watched as much of Friday’s screed as I could stomach, from the standpoint of hearing directly what is being said and what is being asked, firsthand, without the pov of news outlets coverage.
It was just unfuckingbelievable. The stream of outrageous lies and invective.
The questioners were, to put it politely, obsequeous, tepid, lame.
And the buffoon’s schtick is to just steamroll with rambling, disconnected, tangential and often incoherent blows of his aaaauuuugggaaaahhh horn.
What the holy fuck is wrong with the press corpse? Rigor mortis.

Trump’s stupidity and mental illness work for Putin because they helped bring about a steep national decline in just four years. But his incompetence—I assume Putin sees it that way, although there’s more to it—in failing to get the sanctions lifted means Putin doesn’t get the one thing he most wanted.
