What’s so nuts here is that the actual story is that the woman into whose hand Kavanaugh’s penis was thrust didn’t talk to the press, and it is her friends, not her, that claim that she doesn’t remember it. There is however by all accounts a highly credible witness who was willing to testify, and who was brought to the attention of the FBI by a US Senator, but was ignored because, per the instructions from the White House and the Republicans, it was prohibited from doing so. So as a technical evidentiary matter, what is actually unsubstantiated is that she doesn’t remember, not that it didn’t happen.

The most important part of the story was not changed at all - that the FBI did not interview a substantial number of witnesses, who even reached out to the FBI and wanted to corroborate Debra Ramirez’s story. Nothing in Debra Ramirez’s story was changed at all.
