I don’t understand why the Judiciary Committee report isn’t permanently on the top frame of the TPM site. It’s the most significant document produced in these impeachment proceedings. It accuses Trump of committing federal crimes: bribery, violation of Federal wire fraud statutes (honest services fraud):

Then Nadler and team go through each of the elements of bribery and wire fraud to show how Trump meets the elements to be charged with the crimes!
By making a credible and supported accusation of criminal conduct that is the basis of impeachment, the Dems have raised the stakes for Trump. If he loses the election, he will be prosecuted and will go to jail. It would be an imperative for the national security division lawyers at DOJ to prosecute in a post-term environment given what Trump did here. If Biden gets the nod as the nominee, that drops Trump’s chances of winning further, while also raising the risk that he ends up in jail. Most rational folks in Trump’s position would consider resignation with a pardon deal to avoid prosecution. Even if Trump is the exception to said rule, I think he and those around him would have to consider it.
Of course, winning the election probably shuts down all criminal prosecutions of Trump, but the point is that it’s a very big gamble with major downside that’s frankly bigger than the upside.
I’m moving the resignation meter to 37%. Now, to be clear, that still puts him at a 63% chance of competing in the election and leaving his fate to the voters because all tenacious crooks look for an angle and don’t give in willingly or easily. However, I do think it’s fair to to say that most people in his position would seriously consider resignation, as the cost of losing is quite high and the only thing of value he has to trade to avoid prosecution is the office he presently holds.

I don’t think the meter is near high enough for him to remotely consider leaving. That’s abject failure in his eyes and the reward of staying in office is much higher than the risk of leaving in failure. Somehow, the idea of leaving has to become more attractive and more positive than it currently is, but right now, it’s not.

Regardless of where the meter might be, his pathology will not let him fail, that’s never an issue. The question is who he will blame it on.

I do have it as 63% he fights it out. However, I do think if he has a smart lawyer who advises him, that lawyer will have to tell him that if he loses he will face prosecution and likely conviction. That does change how people think. We’ve seen it for years among mobsters and Trump likens himself to mobsters. That’s why putting the chances of resignation at a little over a 1 in 3 chance doesn’t seem out of line to me. It doesn’t make it a majority probability, but it’s on the radar in a non-trivial sense.

This is what the main news sites seem to think is important for their viewers to know. Now, I’m the last person to pooh-pooh tornado damage anywhere, but the rest of it? Really? And no mention anywhere about the actual impeachment, as you suggested for TPM, on any of these sites.
This is a high-on-my-list reason few people have a clue about what’s going on - half of this stuff is barely fodder for ‘Entertainment Tonight’.

When Hannity asked what Rudy was doing in the Ukraine, tRump said you’d have to ask Rudy, because Rudy had other clients. Then Rudy said tRump blessed his trip. Now tRump is claiming Rudy uncovered evidence against who?
While tRump is claiming impeachment is a witch hunt and hoax that he wouldn’t participate in, he’s also promising a robust defense (sans witnesses and government documents) for behavior that he is continuing to sanction… To quote a movie, “Ain’t war hell?”

OF COURSE he’s doing it “out of love.” Only a fool would expect Trump actually to pay for anything, and not even Ghouliani is that stupid. Plus, he’s compensated by being able to sell access to Trump. It’s part of the grift arrangement they have.
