Voting by mail to avoid falling victim to a global pandemic? You gotta have a better excuse than that, says President Donald Trump.
You mean other than the fact that you mail in your own ballots, Mr. “President”?

(1) We can.
(2) You can’t stop us.
That’s two.
Last time i checked its up to the states, so he can blow it out his morbidly obese ass.
Seems to me that our wanting to is enough.
They are our votes and if we want to vote by mail then we should get to.
Everyone repeat after me, from now to November: Donald Trump votes by mail, why can’t everyone?
That can be extended to others, too. Mike Pence votes by mail, and I think Mnuchin does too? Find out and make a list.
“But if there’s not…we don’t want to take any chances with fraud in our elections,” he added.
You can take that two ways.
Article I, Section 3:
“The Times, Places and Manner of holding Elections for Senators and Representatives, shall be prescribed in each State by the Legislature thereof…”
It’s just adorable that he thinks he has any say in it whatsoever.
Five states already do all mail voting, CA is nearly there (this pandemic is likely to make that a reality), and multiple states get a large fraction of their ballots by mail. No one has been able to show any issue with any of these things, and vote by mail increases voter participation. Which makes it no wonder that Republicans are panicked by this…anything that increases the ability for people to participate in our democracy is the exact opposite of what they want for the nation.
Trump is going to doom his party by trying to make this an issue, if they continue to stand against democracy they will lose the younger generation of voters even more than they already are, and older voters are turning against Trump as he fails to lead the nation and continues attacks like this. If they really abandon the Republicans in this election, it will have a huge effect on redistricting for the next decade, giving us a more fair election system, dooming Republicans to minority status in the House for a decade. So, sure, bring it on, help destroy the Republicans as a political party.
The United States faces a series of critical challenges because of the COVID-19 pandemic, including serious impediments to holding safe, secure, and inclusive elections in November. Many voters across the U.S. are likely to find themselves in areas where the pandemic has not abated and where the health risks involved in going to polling locations will be unacceptably high.
To address this threat, The Carter Center urges federal and state governments to expand access to vote-by-mail options and to provide adequate funding as quickly as possible to allow for the additional planning, preparation, equipment, and public messaging that will be required.
The nonpartisan 2005 Commission on Federal Election Reform, co-chaired by former U.S. President Jimmy Carter and former Secretary of State James A. Baker III, noted among its many findings and recommendations that because it takes place outside the regulated environment of local polling locations, voting by mail creates increased logistical challenges and the potential for vote fraud, especially if safeguards are lacking or when candidates or political party activists are allowed to handle mail-in or absentee ballots.
However, the Carter-Baker Commission found that where safeguards for ballot integrity are in place – for example in Oregon, where the entire state has voted by mail since 1998 – there was little evidence of voter fraud. The commission’s main recommendations on vote-by-mail and absentee voting were to increase research on vote-by-mail (and early voting) and to eliminate the practice of allowing candidates or party workers to pick up and deliver absentee ballots. Fortunately, since 2005, many states have gained substantial experience in vote-by-mail and have shown how key concerns can be effectively addressed through appropriate planning, resources, training, and messaging.
I was just going to post this.
State election commissions, to their credit, have been resistant to this administration’s claims of voter fraud. I suspect they won’t put up with this stuff, either.
“A former Judge of Elections in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, has been charged and pleaded guilty to illegally adding votes for Democrat candidates in judicial races in 2014, 2015, and 2016.”
Just yesterday, KS announced that it will be mailing out ballots for both the state primaries in August and the November elections.
This has to do with vote by mail because?
Depends on your state. The Texas AG and Governor are fighting mail in voting as hard as they can.
Sure–of course. I’m hopeful that the judge’s decision the other day in favor of vote-by-mail in Texas will make it through the appeals process.
Now is a great time to make a stand on this (May 2020).
It’s also a great time for Trump to cement himself as opposing it
It won’t. The 5th Circuit is conservative and if they did hold in favor of vote by mail it would go straight to the SCOTUS and a split decision.
There he goes stepping in more doggy doo. Just as expected…
