Trump Argues For End To Jan. 6 Probe | Talking Points Memo

Yes. The National Archive guy is going to turn over the docs in about 10 days unless Donnie Two Impeachments gets an order blocking it. Chutkan will deny the request for injunction today or tomorrow, leaving Trump to get DC Circuit or SCOTUS to block it before then. Neither is especially likely to do before the Archivist is already scheduled to hand them over.

And Chutkan is really tearing Clark apart. He can hardly get two sentences in before she demolishes him with precedent.

(CNN)The power Donald Trump holds as a former president is being put to the test Thursday as a federal judge hears arguments on whether Trump can keep secret records from his White House about his attempt to overturn the 2020 election.
… …
OK, hiw about skipping the finger slap and indicting trump and charging him with sedition or treason which would be my preference.

Trump’s lawyer has been arguing that the Committee could get the records it seeks elsewhere.

Chutkan is incredulous, saying that it’s hard to imagine White House visitor logs existing anywhere apart from the National Archives.

Remember the good ole days when even the thought of blocking a subpoena and the inherent admission of guilt that brings was enough to dissuade this kind of behavior? They’re beyond being able to hide it.

He is not doing this to protect the threat of future Preidential communication…it would be preventing insight into a criminal effort to overthrow the government on January 6th…why people involved with this effort would resist exposure is obvious…why everyone else who watched in horror as this unfolded would not want to understand the details about the insurrection is anybody’s guess…

And if they could get them elsewhere, why fight the archives from releasing them? Why try to block it? East peasy.

As always, he’s only thinking of himself.

However, this ruling would serve as precedent for every future POTUS and could be detrimental to far more than just the immediate issue.

The Judge is onto Trump’s slow walking in order to run out the clock.

“Wouldn’t that always mean that the process of turning over these records, where an incumbent has no objection, slow to a snail’s pace?” she remarked.

Clark is reduced to arguing that Drumpf would suffer irreparable harm if the visitor logs are released because the PRA allows him to sue over it. This is farcical.

Got to say, though, that this is one solid argument:

She asked what right, then, a former president had to make the request.

“The previous administration has a right,”

Agree that it’s all nonsense being thrown to delay and obstruct, but having to explain why something rediculas was denied stills burns the clock.
Glad the judge isn’t having any of it.

Nah, this is a high class lawyer. He’s got an Irish AND a German pub close enough to crawl back to the office after lunch.

Ah, the old ‘because I said so’ defense.

But let’s face it. The argument was inarticulate, as English is not their native tongue.

After all, if the President can’t secretly plot to overthrow the government, who can? None of us will be safe.
