Trump And Johnson Push Funding Bill Through House Amid Dem Outcry Over DOGE And Gov’t Purges

The House passed House Speaker Mike Johnson’s (R-LA) continuing resolution 217-213 Tuesday afternoon, bringing Congress one step closer to avoiding a shutdown just days before the government is set to run out of funding. The bill advances against the backdrop of the Trump administration and its billionaire advisor Elon Musk continuing to flout congressional appropriations…

WHY would any Democrat vote for this? Looking right at you, Rep Golden.

They should be made to own it. All of it.

ETA:

“They’re just doing that to try to get themselves covered. It’s not going to work. It wouldn’t work. It wouldn’t pass. And the government would shut down.”

Wouldn’t bother you with a Democratic President, though, eh, Mikey?

Dem senators are going to vote to allow the bill to come to a vote. In other words, they are not going to filibuster it. On the actual vote, I doubt any democrat will vote for the bill.

These are Golden’s committees. Should be stripped of them immediately. But Jeffries is a wuss

Congressman Jared Golden serves on the House Armed Services Committee. He is a member of the Seapower and Projection Forces Subcommittee and the Intelligence and Special Operations Sucbommittee.

He also serves on the Natural Resources Committee. He is a member of the Energy and Mineral Resources Subcommittee; the Federal Lands Subcommittee; and the Water, Wildlife, and Fisheries Sucbommittee.

Calling this legislation a “continuing resolution” is a category error. The entire purpose of the legislation is to reduce certain levels of Government funding; it’s really just a lazy austerity budget.

Call your senators - No on the CR!

TPM continues to treat what’s going on as politics as usual, or Constitutional legal cases to be fought out. Rather, Trump II represents the fourth political wave of the movement of far right capital to dismantle the New Deal, if not Progressivism (SCOTUS) – and of course much of the Civil Rights Movement as well. After Trump I, they realized that the only way to do it was to ignore the niceties and just dismantle as much as possible as quickly as possible, and see how far and quickly they can go. Part of this is about returning the U.S. to an industrial capitalist power, reversing the last four decades that made it a predominately service one. That includes undoing much of Clinton’s disastrous (to the working class) neoliberalism, which provided for capital a cover for what itself had started in the 1970s, in response to the reemergence of Japan and Germany as major industrial capitalist powers. Tariffs are the weapon of international economic warfare and almost invariably lead to depression and wars. Yes, maybe WWIII.

What has been Democrat’s response? As virtually everyone points out, they don’t have a clue. For TPM, Establishment Democrat Josh Marshall lauded Harris as having run an “almost flawless” campaign, as if he wasn’t reading the daily papers. His being so far off should have led to his pausing, if not completely shutting down this site (also notice how David Kurtz hasn’t mentioned “fascism” since then, after yelling about constantly during the election). And in response to Trump’s SOTU speech, Rep. Slotkin lauded Ronald Reagan for his “moral clarity” of all things, ignoring that he was politically the first wave of far right capital that led to Trump. Her statement expresses in spades what the Democrats are really about.

The Liberal era is over, effectively dead, and not just in the U.S. but throughout much of Europe. American capitalism, and not it alone, has had nothing to offer most of the population. Individual income in the U.S. has stagnated or declined for about lower 60% of the population since the early 1970’s, with occasional blips up, while inflation has continued to march on. That the American working class as a whole is politically backward and without militant political leadership is obvious. Which has led big capital to control the field with bravado (and cowardice). The chickens of modern liberalism have come home to roost.

“They sought from Republicans a promise that Trump and Musk will stop unilaterally blocking congressionally approved funding, and to rein in Musks’ rampage through the federal government.”

More weak sauce from feckless Democrats. In case they are not aware what tRump is doing is already illegal. He’s breaking the law right now. This idea that Democrats want some sort of promise from tRump that he’ll stop breaking the law is laughable.

Golden can fuck all the way off. Something much worse than a shutdown is having the authoritarian oligarch fuckers funding exactly what they want, and nothing else.

Think again…

The weeks of performative “resistance” from those in my party were limited to undignified antics.

Voting to shut the government down will punish millions or risk a recession.

I disagree with many points in the CR, but I will never vote to shut our government down.

Here’s to Schumer and Durbin taking a pass on '26

If we were dealing with politics of just a year ago and we had today’s republican behavior going on I bet republican members would be booted outta DC
But now they kiss trump’s ass and treat Musk like he is god incarnate… it’s sickening.

He thinks this helps him be the other Independent Senator from Maine…

Because he isn’t going to be the democratic nominee…

I doubt any Republican will vote against the bill.
The Party is ringing its death knell.

Oh, am I supposed to post anti-Democratic Party comments on this thread? Well then, shame on you, Democrats, for focusing only on sick Donald Trump and poor Elon Musk. You are obviously weaponizing the political process, and now we have to have a war with Panama.

What these ReThug fucks do in the House is a joke. Trump don’t need no stinking budget - he has his man Bessent in the Treasury seat all set to just print more money if the Congress punts on the budget.

The commupence is going to happen on the streets and in the financial markets. If prices continue to rise and the stock market continues to plunge (taking a LOT of 401K’s and retirement savings with it), and if Elon tries to take away Social Security, there will be blood in the streets.

Trump will have a real mess on his hands and no idea what to do about it. Carney has already got his number on Canada tariffs, and I am betting Putin is going to tell him to eat copious amounts of shit on this ceasefire proposal, (if anyone thinks Zelenskyy is a pushover or an amateur at this Realpolitik stuff, they haven’t been paying attention). Macron is going to deposit new nukes all over Europe and tell NATO to bug-out. What the Hell is Trump going to do when the people he can’t intimidate challenge his genius and his manhood all at once ? Trump will do what he always does - fold. He is, in essence a pussy and a coward, and he is stupidly headed straight into the storm.
