I would hope that the Democrats publicize the hell out of this issue, go on every talk show and frame it clearly as Trump helping Putin - - yet again. Make the R’s back down publicly, or live with the stink until Election Day, if necessary.

I saw that aid to Puerto Rico was part of the spending bill, and the IMPOTUS removed some of the money. Sorry, not clear on the exact details. Disgraceful.

After World War 2 Latvians were replaced by Russians . The Russians ran for office and replaced the Latvians. And thus it became part of USSR.

I was thinking more of the dekulakization of Ukraine. But year, I’m sure crimea will soon vote to join russia if it hasn’t already.

It’s just like Trump’s “religious” voters who defend torturing children, commit blasphemy calling him The Chosen One, Second Coming of God, condoning Trump stranding our Special Forces and Kurdish allies in Syria with Russian and Turkish armies approaching and applauding the cutting back on Medicaid and food stamps as the Christmas season approaches, Republican voters value displaying power and money over advancing civilization.

This is not and hasn’t been an executive power and shouldn’t be. But, since it’s part of their defense they have to maintain the charade. Congress sets the spending, Executive executes the law.

Trump is punishing Ukraine for not being ‘loyal,’ not playing ball his way. Other reasons there might be but Trumpism is always and everywhere about coercion and punishment.

because Pelosi, Schumer, and the rest of the Dem leadership wanted to get out of town. Both Houses had stayed opened an extra week already as it was.
This wasn’t the only provision stripped from a bill because Dems folded – the Defense appropriations bill included a provision requiring the Pentagon to investigate the influence of white nationalists in the military. The GOP insisted that language be stripped from the bill (and “gangs” inserted), and the Dems said “okay”.
The Dems biggest problem right now is leadership that refuses to take advantage of Team Trump mistakes. The minute that Mnuchin said that, Dems should have gone in front of the cameras and announced that Mnuchin demanded that Trump be able to shake down Ukraine next year as well.
(as an aside – its interesting that it was Mnuchin taking the lead here. This was a budget negotiation – and the OMB should have been taking the lead, not Treasury. The fact that it was Mnunchin and not Mulvaney says that those stories about Mulvaney being completely sidelined are true.)

Great article. I just watched Zacharia on CNN, and he said that Congressed passed a law 2 weeks before Nixon resigned REQUIRING the president to spend money appropriated by Congress and not to do so would be unlawful. So, theoretically the money should be spent regardless.
So maybe this fight ended strategically better for the Dems than it sounds. One more anti-Ukraine move by trump; 1. still mad about the lack of dirt, and 2.more help for Putin.
They can always add another article or two as trump’s crimes become more provable.
