There is a lot truth telling still to do…and I hope that Anthony Fauci remains around to tell it.
But I’m not at all confident that tRump can cope with Fauci’s integrity, honesty, expertise and directness (on the same platform). So Fauci’s hypothesis, about truth telling, “they welcome my voice out there telling the truth”, may well get tested to destruction.
Someone is whispering in his ear about the ‘optics’ of sending FEMA and the National Guard into red states. Who can forget the gun confiscation and concentration camps of Jade Helm?
What is the NG going to do? America’s response to COVID has been piecemeal and hodgepodge. Although folks were prescient enough to see the need for a coordinated response to a pandemic years ago and created the agencies to deal with one that’s not much help when the White Working Class’s anxiety leads them to elect a man that ditches those agencies to make himself look above their creator. Now we add the NG to our seat of the pants FUBAR soup response and expect something?
He’s another career Military guy, one with one hell of a career, that’s trashed himself in order to serve his draft dodging master.
Trump’s going to crap on anything military as it will in his sick mind put him above something he ran away from. It will put his cowardly ass above, in his mind, men and women that put on the uniform and served knowing it may cost them their lives.
I spent 6 years in the Green Machine and never thought much of its brass. Lately I’m becoming more and more comfortable with my distaste for them.
Trump’s in a catch 22 when it comes to Fauci. Fire him and free him up to say what he likes with impunity or keep him on and do the best he can to bridle the man.
If you mean that some of them would dearly like Nazi-like fascism in the US, with them in charge of it of course, I’d agree. But if you mean that they literally have a plan in place, a specific, detailed, methodical plan, worked out long ago, well before all this if not before he won the WH, and that they’ve slowly and methodically been putting it in place, I think that’s highly unlikely verging on nuts, and even more so the chances that it succeeds.
You give them way too much credit if this is what you mean. They’re just not that well-organized, disciplined or bright. The Trump presidency was and is an historical accident and aberration made possible by outside manipulation and a confluence of unique circumstances that’s likely to be a one-off and not last beyond its 4 years. It might not even last that long.
As for the 2nd amendment, it’s irrelevant either way, being a relic of a dead era that itself will be dead eventually. The broad proliferation of firearms will no more enable a fascist takeover than allow our side to combat it. At most, they’ll fight each other to see which faction dominates. Those people are stupid, always have been, always will be, and fuck yeah we WILL replace them.
This. This is what caught my attention. Who is he, as president, to suggest that he has any authority over congress and how they conduct their business? It’s not just spewing sounds. It reflects his underlying wish to be the monarch to whom everyone genuflects.
This could be a quiet admission that we don’t have enough tests to perform the two post-illness negative tests required to confirm that a person is no longer infected - so they’ll instead let the person wear a mask.
Trump cannot “activate” the National Guard within a state. He can only federalize National Guard troops in support of a wartime mission. No doubt what happened was the governors of these states activated their National Guard units and Trump is trying to claim credit for it.
