TPM’s Publisher Joe Ragazzo: Five Books That Changed How I Saw The World | Talking Points Memo

I’ve started The Lost Daughter by Ferrante. Pretty damned good.

I remember reading about that. Tragic.

I didn’t like the Lost Daughter. I thought the protagonist should own her choices. She abandoned her daughters for her career.

I may ultimately not fully like it, I’m not that far into it. But woman abandoning her daughters for her career? Happens all the time, think Judy Garland

That’s a little harsh. Judy was the sole support of her children. Entertaining was the only way she knew how to make money. All the kids adored her and are very protective of her image.

Thanks for that. Still have my (beat up) copy. Pick it up from time to time when stuck on a poem.
The White Hotel by D.M. Thomas was both weird and provocative.
And as a Viet vet, Going after Cacciato and Paco’s Story
And all things J.P. Donleavy - and of course D.H. Lawrence
