TPM’s Duke Of Dukes Competition Begins! | Talking Points Memo

In light of current history I modestly propose a name change - " The Golden Trumps "
You know he’s earned it

I nominated a far worse scandal than any of these, and that is Perdue Pharma lying for a decade about the dangers of opioids.

Maybe the Dukes are political only?

This is a helluva bracket. I mean…Rudy “Tootie” Giuliani vs. Jerry “Cucks `R Us” Falwell, Jr. in the first round? The Selection Committee deserves kudos for that one. I think Rob Ford will be the first #1 seed to bow out of the tourney. I’m picking Manafort, Cunningham, D’Souza, and Abramoff for my Final Four. Manafort to win it all and be pardoned days later by Trump. Sleazebags all!

Where is Cowardly Cory? He’s now gone so far as to eliminate the possibility of receiving emails from his constituents. He may not be one of the Greatest Hits, but he sure is a prize example of Republican cowardice in his desire to both lick Trump’s boots and avoid being seen doing so. Of course his shortness and small overall size gives him an advantage in this department because of Trump’s gross size–so easy to hide behind.

TRump may not be in this competition but he is a shoo-in for the lifetime achievement award once it is created.

I also chose Sanford because he endured the humiliation, he tried to wiggle out of it but couldn’t.

Cheney on the other hand has never been humiliated, in fact he managed to get his victim to apologize for suffering Cheney’s negligence.

TPM, please have a new discussion thread for every round, if not every individual competition. This will be too fun and delicious… I don’t want to miss a snarky bit of it! But I also can’t see myself wading through a thousand comments every time I return to it. Pretty please?

Corruption is more than just stupidity and weakness, it’s also malice. That’s why I went with Cheney. And D’Souza, because Bachmann is evil, disgusting and dishonest, but her actions epitomize the banality of evil.
But maybe I’m judging this wrong.

Seems unfair to pit ghoulsie and Jerry “I like to watch” in the first round. Both of them have so much potential if only they could be fully unzipped.

I’m in total agreement with you.

I also strongly suggested Trump for the award for his multiple sadistic policies, flouting of laws, obstruction of justice and congress, etcetera. “Etcetera” because the list is for all practical purposes approaching “infinity and beyond”. None of the competitors for the Duke come even close to Trump.

The fact that Trump isn’t even in the bracket is a disgrace to the award and renders the award effectively moot. That is, the award becomes just another lie, just like Trump.

Fair enough not including his Orangeness as It’d be a Bidenesque landslide victory. But can we have a follow-up bracket with just Trump fiasco/embarrassments/horrors? My money is on porn star hush money, but there are so many worthy contenders!

Nevertheless the competition will be entertaining.
But trump is in his own category. I sincerely believe fair justice requires a trial and many many guilty verdicts. There is no way I could be fair on a jury because of my hatred for him.

The preliminary contest here seems so one sided to me! It seemed like the winners raised simply odious up to downright malignant.

What gets me is trump denies he did anything with Stormy yet he paid her, thru Michael Cohen. It is obvious what the 4 checks for $35,000 were for as Michael said what they were for under oath on TV to committees.

Back in the 90’s during one of his several bankruptcies one of the New York tabloids had a cartoon of Trump living in a box on the street begging for money. I think it was named the Trump carton. I have visions of him spending his final days like that with no one giving him anything.

Ted Cruz vs. Lindsay Graham

Just the fact that they lowered themselves from that lofty goal of considering themselves the ultimate protectors of the sacred Conservative Movement to becoming the shine on Trump’s toilet seat makes them worthy of this year’s award.

The winner? You aren’t going to believe all the winning…before Republicans get done with their obsession with Trump and fascism.

It would be more accurate to say Trump failed to make the cut because of his office (POTUS) and the potentially serious consequences of his corruption and idiocy, not because his behavior was anything less than utterly outrageous. Perhaps a new category – maybe calling it Berlusconismo if only to avoid American chauvinism and giving the Manchurian Cantaloupe any more cred – for gonzo governance at a level consequential enough to really make a nation as a whole suffer more than mere outrage.
