One good thing they’ve been doing is buying Treasury bonds with any surplus. This year, for I believe the first time, they will start cashing in some of those bonds.
Resource theft is a Republican virtue. Here in Kern County, Mojave sand with millennia-old creosote rings has been reclassified as prime farm land to allow massive extraction of ice-age groundwater to be depleted for alfalfa and pistachio trees.
Guess it’s time for a deepfake!
It’s because the Wall St. guys understand that if they publicly say X, then !X instantly becomes the position everyone will try to jump on.
Or have a meeting with Exxon executives with a suitcase of cash on hand.
No way he skips that meeting.
Is that the autocorrect for “Assholes” ??
Manchin represents a state that has lost population, around 3% due to a number of factors like young people fleeing, an aging population as well as deaths of despair. The 2020 census has them losing a congressional seat.
The number of coal jobs has declined over the past 40 years to around 15k. The largest industries there are in the health care sectors. Krugman had an illuminating column on WV last week.
He ought to be advocating for a robust bill in order to diversify the state’s economy and make it worthwhile for its residents to live there not kowtowing to his petrochemical paymasters.
Seems Mitch want us to pull the filibuster trigger.
He knows that we can’t use it effectively even if we killed it.
But Republicans would
Therein lies the rub… investment to diversify the economy inherently will mean worker retraining and other educational endeavors.
Educated people see through BS better. That’s bad for the likes of Joe Manchin
Manchin is on the clock. He has to reach a deal or have the deal shoved in his face. It’s a little late in the day for him to be raising issues.
TPM should do a “find and replace” in all articles going forward replacing Sinema and Manchin’s names with Blanche Lincoln and Ben Nelson…
Is it time to kick off another round of “Fuck Joe Manchin’s Ben Nelson’s”
Xactly… That’s why the ACA has an individual mandate
Until the Republicans zeroed it out. Still technically on the books, but with no actual penalty.
Like impeachment
Sort of tied into @irasdad’s money rant above, a lot of the Wall St. types’ livelihoods depend on the system “working” and so long as everyone believes the system is “working” then it is “working.”
But the moment someone steps in and asks to look in the box and see if it really is working, then all hell breaks loose because they don’t really know what’s in the box. They’ve been passing it around, assuring everyone that it’s full of cash cats, but it depends on no one actually checking to see if it’s still full alive.
So they have to assume that Congress will pass something (or that President Biden’s mitigation efforts will be successful in the meantime). Otherwise, someone’s going to have to open that box and see if it smells or not, and nobody’s interested in finding that out when they can continue to blithely assume it’s all destined to work out.
I haven’t watched Law and Order in many years, but happened to have L&O: Special Victims Unit on last night. Story was apparently based on…a politician who was involved in a sex trafficking scheme. This one involved putting expectant or single mothers in housing, then extorting them for sex while threatening eviction. However he also had a proclivity for young interns. 15 years young in one case. Huh, where do you suppose they thought up a politician involved in sex trafficking and minors?
Too many to count. So Gaetz ain’t getting royalties.
“Rep. Adriano Espaillat (D-NY), who is the first formerly undocumented immigrant to serve in Congress, hinted at potentially withholding his vote if the package doesn’t address immigration.”
Holy shit…sit the fuck down and shut the fuck up…FUUUUUCK…
