geez, all this reporting that I haven’t seen… like this from two days ago, mentioned in the Peters letter…
Also in September 2018, the Iowa Air National Guard, en route back to the U.S. from an official visit to Kosovo in a KC-135 plane, stopped to refuel in Scotland,…
The 185th air refueling wing out of Sioux City, Iowa, which was making the trip, had about 35 to 40 soldiers and airmen that needed lodging, and they ultimately stayed at Turnberry. According to the spokesperson, the crew doubled up in rooms and were provided transportation to and from Prestwick.
The Prestwick stop was due to fuel “limitations” on the flight out of Kosovo, the spokesperson said…
And the overnight stay at Turnberry was arranged through the Defense Travel System — essentially the Pentagon’s in-house travel agent — and “directed by a higher echelon … based on mission and operational requirements.”
First off…
How the hell did the Trump Turnberry Hotel become available within the Defense Travel System in the first place, considering that its regular room rates far exceed the DoD maximum of $166/day.
We’ve seen this “Defense Travel System” before. It was one of two explanations for how the C-17 crew from the original story wound up at Turnberry. The other explanation was the “private contractor” operating out of Glasgow Prestwick Airport (GPA) itself. THAT person supposedly has over a dozen local hotels to choose from – and supposedly, when that C-17 crew stayed at Turnberry, there was “no room at the inn” in any of the closer hotels.
Now, going through the GPA “private contractor” makes sense. The airport made a deal with the hotel back in 2014/2015.
But that was the airport’s deal. And if all the airport affiliated hotels are in the Defense Travel Service, then why would anyone need the ‘local contractor’ to book hotels? So no, I don’t think that all GPA local hotels are currently listed in the DTS databases. So again – what is Trump Turnberry doing in the Defense Travel System database? (I think I know an ‘innocent’ explanation… but even that one has lots of problems).
Next, Glasgow Prestwick is three hours by air from Kosovo. Why the hell did they need an overnight stay in Scotland, when all they needed was more fuel for the flight home?
The plane itself is a Stratotanker – one of those air-to-air refueling behemoths. It has a range of over 11,000 miles when its not carrying a load of fuel. But WTF is this plane doing in freaking Kosovo? Especially if there are “limitations on fuel”!!!
