History is the list of sites you visited. Cookies are a particular kind of personalized data. “Data” could easily be all other kinds of personalized data. So this does not necessarily clear “cached resources”: publicly available images (and other kinds of subsidiary files) that are unlikely to change. They are kept to make browsing faster and use less bandwidth. So let’s see…
At the very bottom of Settings > Apps > Safari is Advanced; tap it. At the top then is Website Data. It’ll churn for a little bit, and on the iPad here it says Website data: 304 MB, of which talkingpointsmemo.com is 53.1 MB. A red Remove All Website Data button is at the bottom.
Backing up a couple of levels to Safari, Clear History and Website Data is blue, after Import and Export. (This is whatever version is before v26 Tahoe; holding off on that upgrade.) In the Clear History dialog it prompts for the Clear Timeframe: Last hour, Today, Today and yesterday, and All history. You’re choosing that last one?
Choosing Today and yesterday, checking the Website Data again shows TPM is down a little to 52.7 MB. Going back to these forums, I am logged out, but not from the main site, so going to The Hive from there automatically logs me back in here. My avatar is still visible on this iPad.
Now choosing to clear All history, all Website Data is zero; there are no sites. Going to the main site, I have been logged out. Returning here, my avatar is now gone.
I erase all history on the safari menu each night. I then remove all the windows on the screen so there are no open windows. I don’t bother to travel into the land of Advanced. I actually turn the iPad off after I’ve done the above. I don’t save any passwords online so the only thing that shows up when I power up is my email. I manually login to my favorite sites each day. I worked in tech for a lot of years and learned to keep a clean machine.
Monkeys aren’t that ordered. The GOP behaves more like an ant colony. You’re not wrong, but Noblesse oblige can be leveraged into actual decent behavior. There’s not really a lever to use against an ant colony.
They are monkeys though. We are monkeys. We have just reverted to our animalistic nature. It is the levers the Right pull. Racism, antisemitism, homophobia, these are unthought instinctual hatreds that are primped by the church in the service of the rich since the year dot.
Noblesse oblige is about all we can wish for from 'capitalism’. Capitalism is inevitably fascistic because it must concentrate power in a person who is an inheritance monkey surrounded by houris, affirming every base, unthought, amd animalistic action.
I will not argue that we, including the MAGA folks are not monkeys. But the uniformity of their behavior seems alien, it transcends mere tribalism. It often feels as though a different programming has been inserted and over-ridden their Savanah Chimp 2.0 programming. It would be interesting to consider the theological ramifications of their apparent lack of free will.
I’m not enough of a theologian (nor do I care to put in enough effort to be one) to speak authoritatively on the subject, but I do think there’s a decent connection between Christian Election and predestination.
I can easily imagine how a belief that “God’s already decided about me” would wind up as “what I do doesn’t matter”.
The church has been leading people into their chains since the beginning. Interesting, our times, for what they reveal. The media has always been owned and controlled by the wealthy to their own ends, for instance. The Churches of the Confederacy are the most powerful voting bloc in the country.
This isn’t Right vs Left. It’s Rich vs Poor, and the inheritance class of monkeys are free to act out their animalistic behavior. It will kill us all.
