Sen. Tom Cotton (R-AR) won’t let President Donald Trump’s failed idea of purchasing Greenland die.
Everything with this administration is a “No-Brainer”
As in … “There were no brains involved in the making of this idea”
If Greenlanders want to be Americans (weird how we don’t afford Honduran refugees this choice, but bear with me), they can seek independence from Denmark and then petition us for territory status (I don’t think they are populous enough to be a state). And by the way, it wouldn’t cost the United States a dime!
So go push your op-ed with the Sermersooq Herald, dipshit.
They have drop “green” from the name though. Too squady.
Yes, making Greenland essentially a U.S. military base would alter the life of residents significantly.
Samuelson in the Washington Post has a column bemoaning the deficit - and calling on Democrats to do the ‘rational thing’ by cutting Social Security and Medicare to make up for it - but we have trillions available to buy Greenland.
Republican “brilliance” at its finest.
How sweet that Cotton is concerned about the burden to the Danish people. Shows he’s not just a greedy selfish bastard who wants other people to pay the cost of maintaining a territory while private developers extract its wealth. Oh wait …
Why buy it? Can’t we rent military bases for a lot less money and maintain our dominance of the area?
Yes but Denmark could sell it to someone else and our rent would rise, and maybe they’d kick us out or increase the pet deposit.
Or maybe they’ll sell it to Kushner, and he’d be a dick about late payments. Might be less hassle to own it ourselves.
Frankly, I don’t cotton to this idea. But, frankly, this is a thread better than most of his lame proposals.
“despite Greenland’s long-term potential, a lack of infrastructure and financing still hamstring the island’s economy today”
If Greenland had an orifice, he’d be admitting the only reason we haven’t raped it yet is because everyone’s looking.
If they sold it to Kushner it would just end up having a joint lien against it by Qatar and UAE.
Apropos of nothing, but somehow I’m typing: I saw a map years ago that showed how much US farmland the Dutch owned and it was a huge amount. It was just vast.
The craziest thing about conservatives is how they honestly think they support capitalism in any way. So the purpose of government is to obtain land for national security by subsidizing its people in exchange for resources and military bases. I don’t think there’s a dictator alive who would disagree with this sort of social contract. It’s like Cotton is confusing Alaska’s socialism with fascism.
According to free-marketers, if Greenland or Alaska were worthwhile, they could support themselves. But most conservatives want a powerful government that takes care of the “right” people while smiting their enemies. Their end game is a one-world government, just as long as they’re at the top.
You all realize that this is how the drill baby drill party is responding to global warming. Over the next 100 years a lot of glaciers are going to melt in Greenland so as Florida floods Greenland will prosper.
Of course, the official Republican line is somewhere between there is no global warming or global warming is God’s will.
Not sure it’s the craziest but definitely pretty nutty.
FIFY…
Arkansas is the Mississippi of Oklahomas.
Republicans never want to let a bad idea die. It’s part of their pro-life policy.
