Dr. Michelle Fiscus, who served as the medical director for vaccine-preventable diseases and immunization programs at the Tennessee Department of Health, was ousted on Monday after state Republican lawmakers attacked her for a recent memo on giving teens the COVID-19 vaccine.
My college in upstate NY is requiring documentation of vaccination for students and employees (accommodations available for medical reasons or āsincerely held religious beliefsā).
We donāt have lots of requests for accommodations, but a couple of the parents involved are being incredibly rude (surprise surprise) to the college administrators taking their calls.
One was told she was responsible for genocide.
Another was told she was responsible for the infertility of millions of women.
Because they support the schoolās policy of requiring vaccination.
Of those Repug politicians who called for good Doctor Michelle Fiscus to be fired, have they been vaccinated? Have their children or grandchildren been vaccinated?
It is my guess that these politicians have made sure their family, loved ones and friends including teenagers over 14 were some of the first to get the vaccine.
I have not been able to make real hash yet out of the reporting on Delta and what is going on out there. My impression the unvaccinated are going to take a hit and likely harder than last year. And that hit is shaping up in Red states with populations who support equally unrealistic leadership.
But damn it, if that happens, those parents will still be right.
The thing is, what she sent out had been boilerplate state guidelines for 34 years. It just hadnāt been updated to reflect a new episode in red-state history where hysterical goons are freaking out over a vaccine that can keep you safe from a widespread and deadly disease. She was fired for telling people āThis is what our policy is.ā Not a lawyer but that might be an enticing wrongful termination suit.
No. They donāt. The people who have lied to them, howeverā¦
And look at the case rate trends, everywhere - it doesnāt have to be more deadly, being highly transmissible will do as well, to go through the unvaccinated like a scythe.
āFiscus became a target for Republicans when she sent a letter to health professionals who provide vaccines laying out Tennesseeās āMature Minor Doctrine,ā which gives them the legal authority to administer vaccines to minors over the age of 14 without requiring parental consent.ā
So the Law-And-Order Partyā¢ is punishing her for (literally) quoting the law.
And the Pro-Life Partyā¢ is punishing her for (literally) saving childrenās lives.
Depends on the health care worker - there is a movement among nurses that doesnāt trust the vaccine and hundreds of nurses have refused to get vaccinated.
I donāt want to pay for stupid people. Which is exactly what we are doing with tax dollars and healthcare rates.
First there are the sick and dying, then thereās long Covid. Some will be sick for the rest of their days. Oh, and just keep on breeding variants, you fucking morons.
