I’m all for the presumption of innocence, but let’s cut the bullshit here. If all the texts disappeared that’s one thing. But only the texts sent on or around the date of the insurrection? Cut the bullshit. Does anyone really need to say it out loud?
The law was never designed apparently for the “my dog ate my homework” excuse.
Look who appointed them. For example, DHS’s Inspector General Joseph Cuffari was appointed by Toadglans, as IIRC a few others were. And they’re still in those positions!
One might as why? But that would be like asking why Michael Flynn hasn’t been recalled to active duty, court-martialed, stripped of his pension and thrown in jail for the rest of his life.
Everything Trump Touches Dies
Or ends up in a box at MAL, or buried somewhere in NJ.
Anyone else think that Chad and Ken were directing agents?
And what’s up with withholding the threat against Speaker Pelosi until after the Capital had been cleared?
Seems to me that several higher ups (IG types) ought to be not only unemployed but in deep doo doo with law enforcement (assuming any law enforcement still exists)
I am glad I have no plans to visit any golf courses in NJ. Parking Ivana by the first hole of the course just smacks of mob type hatred.
There may be text message on USSS agents’ private phones, but the Committee chairs were asking for the government issued phones’ text messages (not emails) - technically one can not (should not) be using a personal phone for Federal business. Hillary recalls this well even though it wasn’t a rule in her day. It certainly was a rule for me in hte Exec Branch agency i was in - as soon as we got our Blackberries, we had rules.
DHS Deputy Inspector General Gladys Ayala sends USSS Director James Murray a letter instructing him to halt the Secret Service’s internal investigation into how the phone records were purged.
“To ensure the integrity of our investigation, the U.S.S.S. must not engage in any further investigative activities regarding the collection and preservation of the evidence referenced above,” she writes. “This includes immediately refraining from interviewing potential witnesses, collecting devices or taking any other action that would interfere with an ongoing criminal investigation.”
This is sounding Monty Pythonesque.
Sure hope you are right. Like many posters here, I’m beside myself about this issue. It stinks to high heaven and needs action. Perhaps they have the guys’ phones tapped. One can dream.
Yes, that explains agents’ failure to back up their text messages. That and simple human inertia (why bother, who really needs their own text messages from even a few months ago). But it does not explain the failure to stop wiping old phones after January 16th 2021, when four House chairs submitted information preservation requests.
Or why trump has not been indicted yet for a string of exceedingly obvious crimes he has committed…
Your avatar brings another image to mind from a poster I have not seen in a very long time…
@srfromgr

Cuffari did not wipe any phones. Cuffari is not the one who was responsible for handling the Jan 16th information preservation requests. So kindly fuck off with your trope of “republicans did something bad and it’s the democrats fault because reasons”.
The s.o.b. was the ultimate one man sleeper cell.
If you had read the article (shocking idea, I know), you might have noticed that many of the letters being excerpted are from deputy inspectors general.
What we need to know about missing text msgs?
I’ll make it easy: They were complicit in Jan 6.
For starters…
I am pretty sure I will never understand what actually happened here, and I am also sure that will be the goal for some people. What puzzles me is how they managed to get everyone in the department to delete their texts. Do we believe that every person in the SS was in on “it”? I have a very hard time believing any agency in the US govt can move in lockstep to do anything, much less a massive coverup.
Something stinks for sure - I am just not sure what it is. I know that I don’t believe everyone who worked in the SS or DHS as a whole was on board for a coup attempt.
Phone swap for new ones, scheduled for the transition period.
Plan itself is nothing nefarious-- remember the "w"s ‘missing’ from keyboards on the transition to dubya? Turned out it was just swapping for new computers.
Appears to be a long-time standard to use the transition periods for these hardware upgrades, and the cell phones turned in would have been wiped before either getting trashed or handed to another user.
Maybe the same people who had all the 10 Million emails that GWB tried to erase have these bastards’ text messages. And maybe there are Secret Service agents whose Right Wing ideology stops before obstruction of justice. Either way, I think Ron Klain and Biden have to recognize the Secret Service needs a major house cleaning. And if Trump ever runs for president again, he absolutely cannot be allowed the Candidate’s Intelligence Briefings. It was bad enough that he and Flynn got them while Flynn was communicating with Russian government agents.
I can’t tell you how helpful and clear these kinds of layouts are for lazies like me. Thanks @kailaphilo
