Trump has an unexpired Blue tourist passport, and an unexpired Gold criminal passport, which curiously had Saudi, Moroccan, UAE and Jordanian stamps in it.

People sometimes have to send their passport to a foreign embassy for a visa and it can take a long time to get it back. If they travel a lot, they might need a passport to use while that one is out of reach. The State Department will issue multiple passports if convinced that a need is legitimate. (IIRC, some people used to use one passport when visiting Israel and another when visiting Arab countries.)
Also, one could be the red (or black) passport used when you travel on government (or diplomatic) business. But my recollection from years ago is that I was required to return the red passport as soon as each trip was over. In contrast, I still have my old blue laissez-passer (a sort-of UN passport) in the safe. It’s expired, but holds some memories.
