That was some great reporting on Tik Tok. That, and spaces like it, are exactly where the war is being fought for everyone under 40-45.
The formats already have every incentive to be light on anything edifying and heavy on everything that is trivial. Popular ‘garbage’ or ‘junk drawer’ type of content is always likely to smother real news and important, existential content even without a heavy finger on the scales.
Now, add in a 100 incentives for these companies to monetize and sanitize and groom their content and it becomes a sewer. Now, add in another 100 incentives for them to take political sides, engender cronyism and crony synergy, and political/oligarchical motives and it is worse than a sewer.
Now…this would be horrible no matter what the product is (shows, movies, art, entertainment)…but the reality is that it is COMMS. Absolutely essential to forming opinion, guiding discussion, hiding what they don’t want you to see, obscuring truth, flooding the zone, and fighting real news that could be emerging on other platforms.

There was a phrase in the story, and maybe I misread it, about the First Felon. Here it is:
Prior to Trump pushing TikTok to new owners, the platform was known for an algorithm that curated highly individualized feeds for viewers.
Can we wonder if that influence on the new owners might also extend to what can and cannot be posted on the website? I mean, anything is possible, but I can see there having been an unspoken agreement that only content agreeable with that of the current administration is permissible.
I fear for this in light of my oldest grandson’s admission two years ago that T-T was where he got all his news.

The UN-sanctioned Board of Peace announced by Donald Trumpearlier this year to rule Gaza is planning a sweeping grant of legal immunity for itself, according to a draft of the resolution obtained by the Guardian. The draft language would also let the organization obtain public property in Gaza “free of charge”.
The four-page resolution, labeled “sensitive but unclassified”, extends broad protections to every member of the Board of Peace and its administrative affiliate, the office of the high representative (OHR), as well as to the Palestinian technocrats, international military forces and nonresident contractors lined up to perform work in Gaza. It defines legal processes from which they would have immunity as “any arrest, detention or legal proceedings in the courts or other entities in Gaza”.

If that second hit on a ship is verified, it means the Iranians are willing to suffer whatever limited retaliation from the US to assert their demands for control of transit. It also means the US doesn’t have enough anti-air defenses to protect these ships.
The Iranian drones are using very precise targeting on ship bridges. Maybe to avoid an oil spill by breaching the hull? Lucky no one was injured, and I’m wondering if maybe these drones are using low-yield warheads to get attention without causing serious damage.

They’ve granted themselves immunity from UN enforcement. They are unable to grant themselves immunity from retribution by Hamas, Hezzbola, Iran or any other groups that are against the actions they take in Gaza.
