Thune Says Any Challenge To Electoral College Tally Would ‘Go Down Like a Shot Dog’ | Talking Points Memo

Senate Majority Whip John Thune (R-SD) said Monday that a desperate effort by a a handful of House members in his party to challenge the Electoral College’s results reaffirming Joe Biden as the next president would “go down like a shot dog.”

It is refreshing to know America’s best are defending Trump.

Why do I have the feeling that it’s just not going to be that simple? That T***p will try some last-minute desperation play that will result in an international crisis?

So you’re saying there’s a chance?

Just a reminder to those Republicans Senators and Congresscritters who are hell bent on trying to overthrow Joe.

Section 3 of the 14th Amendment states: No person shall be a Senator or Representative in Congress, or elector of President and Vice President, or hold any office, civil or military, under the United States, or under any state, who, having previously taken an oath, as a member of Congress, or as an officer of the United States, or as a member of any state legislature, or as an executive or judicial officer of any state, to support the Constitution of the United States, shall have engaged in insurrection or rebellion against the same, or given aid or comfort to the enemies thereof. But Congress may by a vote of two-thirds of each House, remove such disability.

That this is a matter for discussion in our government is embarrassing. That the people going along with this often have some kind of legal education makes it shameful. That an erratic Supreme Court could be asked to weigh in on this stuff is frightening. Stupidity on steroids.

I wonder if the Dominion lawyers are writing up pre-cease and pre-desist letters in anticipation of this?

Holy shit nice visualization!
In happier news, SNL looks at the good things that happened during Trump’s time in office. This is pretty funny and I like the song choice.

I said it yesterday, and I’ll repeat. Trump is not leaving until he’s exhausted every single option, up to including some that blow right by any lines in the sand and go straight to what in another era would have been labeled treason and sedition. He will call on the military, to do something, somehow, to assist him. Every fiber in his being dreads leaving the safety of his office. In his mind his very existence depends on not losing. It’s going to get much worse.

Just imagine the turmoil when Trump actually forces a General to disobey an order.

Perhaps Thune and some other GOP Senators could visit the Oval Office and explain that if the House sends new articles of impeachment over anything he has done during the time that should have been a peaceful transition they have enough votes to remove him from office. Perhaps they could suggest that instead he resign and have Pence pardon him. A reasonable fear that they could and would do it may be the only thing that keeps him in line. On the other hand, he’s delusional, so nothing may work.
And off topic, but I just looked at the headlines of TPM again: a challenge to the electoral college would go down like a shot dog, and Newsmax runs from their coverage like a scalded dog. Not a good time to be a dog, it seems.

That is quite the cast filling out that Algonquin Round Table. Nice to see a group of treasonous conspirators doing their thing in the open, in the Peoples House no less. I think they each got a My Pillow for participating too. Winning.

Shorter Thune: “Let the baby have his bottle. Look, this gets us through the next two weeks. Then we’ll figure out something else for the next two weeks.”

Problem is a shot dog wouldn’t make headlines, unless there was a man biting its leg.
A failed effort to overturn the election might, and capturing the lead has almost always been what Donnie looks at. Likely as not, it’ll go down.

I was listening to a Constitutional scholar talk about this idea of sedition. He said the charge doesn’t fit because the legal definition includes the use of force. I know that it’s now in vogue to dismiss any evidence of strategic thought when discussing Trump, but I do find it pretty interesting that he and his people have threaded the needle. They’ve embedded their coup into the minds of millions of Americans and intend to march it into the halls of Congress, all without firing a shot and not exposing themselves to charges of sedition. Pretty impressive for an insane idiot who can’t think beyond 10 minutes from now.
