Originally published at: Three Conservative Judges Lob SCOTUS Another, Long-Shot Chance to Jam Through Missouri Gerrymander
The Supreme Court will weigh in a third time on Missouri Republicans’ attempts to ram through a maximal gerrymander after twice rejecting those efforts. An 8th Circuit Court of Appeals panel circumvented the Supreme Court’s temporary restraining order blocking the state legislature’s 2025 map Monday evening. The aggressive gerrymander would likely give Republicans 7 seats…
If SCOTUS does this - and it’s what I said would give them an out - this will be the second time (possibly third) that they have made the decision after ballots had been mailed out - and in one case, the primary voting had already been underway.
The entire Republican strategy right now, from Trump all the way down to weaselly shitasses like Denny Hoskins, is to create irreversible facts on the ground irrespective of law and (attempt to) retroactively legalize it. Eg:
- Operation Ballroom Blitz
- Operation Hormuz Folly
- Operation Bomb Browns in Boats
- Operation Don’t Turn the Deportation Plane Around
- Operation Don’t Count the Browns
- Operation Trumps Don’t Pay Taxes
- Operation Don’t Deliver Ballots
- Operation Ignore Petitions, Lawsuits, and Averse Court Orders Until It’s Conveniently Too Late To Do Anything About It
It’s all the same strategy. Courts and laws can’t prevent or repair damage without robust enforcement. At some point we have to figure out the part of ‘enforcement’ that lives between the ‘en’ and the ‘ment’.
Is there no mechanism to rein in these unqualified buffoons who insist on reversing orders by higher courts? Does the judiciary not have any internal policing procedures?
The reactionary majority have no one to blame but themselves for being bombarded with these half-assed, hopeless attempts. Every idiot Republican failson in law school has learned that you can hurl a dog’s breakfast at SCOTUS and if it benefits the entrenched elite there’s a >80% chance it’ll win.
Third times the charm… right?
I live in Missouri. I collected signatures for this proposition and went to Jefferson City to demonstrate in front of the Supreme Court.
If the Supreme Court, like is have done twice, will allow the old maps to ge in effect, I see the Republican challenging the election of the Kansas City Democrat (Emmanual Cleaver) and, if he wins, the Democrat running in the suburb of St. Louis (a much more friendly Democratic district than the new map).
