Yes. Well said. McConnell’s court will kneecap Democratic administrations, rubber stamp Republican ones, and then McConnell will block any legislation meant to address either, as the minority or the majority. Unchecked gerrymandering, dark money, gutted civil rights–and there will be nothing Congress or voters can do about it.
She wouldn’t last a week in a corporate job. Nobody would be influenced by her style of lobbying. Congress critters would take her money and then tell her to fuck off.
ok…here is a really dumb question…is there any way to curb the power of the Supremes, other than just tell them to go pound sand? these people are not elected to office…as near as i know, they are appointed federal emplyees. can they enforce any of the opinions they come up with…i may be wrong. but Eisenhauer sending troops to enforce the school de-segregation issue , which was a law passed by Congress.
And Mitch McConnell will live forever, too! OMG! We are so DOOMED.
It’s not a dumb question. The legislature can always legislate to address things the SCOTUS has done - like Citizen’s United, for instance. Congress could address campaign finance and fix what the court did in that opinion.
SCOTUS will require that health care facilities that receive Medicare or Medicaid funding make sure all their employees are vaccinated against COVID-19. That is pretty much all of them, right?
We can and will use these rulings in unintended ways against the antidemocratic GOP.
What is dead may never die.
And just now the Supremes shot down President Biden’s/OSHAs attempt to have employers with over 100 employees require the workforce to be vaccinated. Strike one against the power of federal agencies to regulate pandemic efforts and agencies power in general. Out with the all powerful executive ala John You and the Bush jr. era and in with the neutering of the executive for partisan reasons. Had the dotard mandated vaccinations to control the spread of the virus I have no doubt this group of right wing catholic justices would have ruled in his favor.
So unless you work in healthcare, you goes to work and you takes your chances with the assholes to the right and left of you.
Sounds about right. America’s never thought worker safety matters very much. Still, this is really pretty dumb from an employer standpoint. If everybody’s out sick, your business doesn’t run.
some work-places are charging their no-vax emplyees extra on their health insurance…saying the no-vaxxers are driving up the cost of everyone’s premiums…insurance companies do have that power.
That’s the hope isn’t it? That capitalism can regulate the businesses because so many of the worker bees are out with the virus that profits are tumbling. Damn those worker bees to hell for being so weak as to get the virus and cost the corps money. Now the battle over the second decision to allow the mandate that all healthcare workers be vaccinated. Hope this includes all first responders ala the cops and firemen who are rife with vaccine disinformation.
been a label reader fpr years…
And rife with the virus. Covid has been the leading cause of death for US cops for two years in a row now.

Right so either you as the employer mandate masks your own self or you end up closing down because you don’t have the personnel. It’s pretty simple. I am not upset about the ruling with regard to businesses. I’m happy about the health care worker mandate. Roberts could have extended the President’s reach enough to allow for a mandate on big businesses but I didn’t think the court was going to do that for a Democratic president.
good times ahead! i;m old enough to remember the ‘impeach EARL WARREN’ movement…they failed.
I remember it. I didn’t think it ever was anything more than billboards.
One of the things that always peeved me was the fact that articles concerning Climate neglected to occasionally focus on the good we have done (without which we would have been a lot worse off).
It would certainly be more encouraging.
There is no law requiring there to be no congratulations mixed in with urgency.
Yeah I agree. The climate situation can be so overwhelming to people that they just give up and they mostly don’t think about it. And it is often pounded into us how dire things are and I know they are but it doesn’t seem to motivate people. Successes can make a difference - and we’ve had them. We’ll have more of them as things progress. I believe in us; I don’t think we’re going extinct yet.
I think that if the Supreme Court continues on its current path, they may well be setting the stage for their own loss of authority and legitimacy in the longer run. If the Democrats get an effective trifecta at some point, they will have no choice but to either “pack” the Court or make extensive use of jurisdiction stripping in order to fulfill their agenda to any significant degree. Indeed, even a sane conservative party–if one ever emerges in the United States–is likely to find the constraints that this Court is proposing to put on national government to be intolerable.
It’s not like he’ll take his obstruction “secrets” to the grave.
