I watch all of Doug Ducey’s press conferences here in AZ. I keep thinking he’ll come to his senses and twist and turn and wriggle into the correct position eventually. I don’t know why I subject myself.
(Actually, I do know why, it’s the Q&A session when he gets skewered by the press, his face turns red and he starts talking high and fast. It’s a beautiful thing.)
Yesterday he introduced the R number as if he invented it just now. He said a couple months ago we were below 1. Now that we’re closing bars and gyms (?) we’re going to try to get back to below 1. HELLO dumbum, we were below 1 because everything was shut down. You think we will get back to below 1 when we’re not shutting down and you still refuse to mandate masks??
Sorry, I needed to vent. It is truly infuriating that everything about this situation seems so obvious but will never penetrate the block heads who think Individual 1 is still gonna be their meal ticket.

They may have to rethink that with Congressional Republicans acting like mini Trumps. State Republicans acting like mini mini Trumps to get noticed. And I guess they’ll not mess with what passes for “conservative opinion writers” since they know that Trump’s base does’t read.

At least two of their principals have said they do. The Rs must be burned to the ground before being rebuilt. [Their message; I could live without the rebuilding part.] They’re conservatives (hey, a place to use the word without invoking myth!), but I think they’re not Republicans at the moment.

I was in Fla. In Mar. and early Apr. In Pinellas County they shut the beaches (really the parking lots) and closed indoor dining. Then they got silly and reopened too soon. Leadership is in short supply. Ideology TRUMPS science.
