The Supreme Court, at President Trump’s behest, will reconsider the bedrock American principle of birthright citizenship on Wednesday in the biggest case of the term, United States v. Barbara. The administration is trying to exclude the children of “temporary visitors” and “illegal aliens,” arguing that they lack sufficient loyalty to the United States to deserve…
Washington — President Trump signed an executive order Tuesday requiring states to impose stricter mail-in voting rules and directing his administration to create a list of confirmed U.S. citizens who are eligible to vote in each state.
The additional requirements, made without any action by Congress, are all but certain to face challenges in the courts. It’s not clear whether or how the order will affect the midterm primary elections, which are already underway in many states.
As a birthright citizen and the daughter of two immigrants, this topic is personal to me. If TSF is allowed to unilaterally change the constitition and decide who can and cannot be a citizen, there will be no impediment to another president doing the same. And next time they might decide that POC can’t be citizens anymore, or people with brown eyes or who were born on Wednesday or more likely, those who don’t vote the right way. I hope SCOTUS will deign to uphold the plain text of the constitution - unfortunately, they don’t have a very good track record on that.
Memo to: SCOTUS From: America Subject: Dissent and the U.S. Constitution
“To announce that there must be no criticism of the President, or that we are to stand by the President, right or wrong, is not only unpatriotic and servile, but is morally treasonable to the American public.” ― Theodore Roosevelt
Will this be a “moving forward” type of decision or do they hope to figure out if they can deport “anchor” babies? Are the babies of these babies naturalized? How far back do you go? Since the founding of the Country?
It will be far less than 9 - 0 and those on the side of ending birthright citizenship will call it their proudest moment, thus far. Calling it 6 - 3 to end it, with the three being Sotomayor, Kagan and Jackson - the only three rational justices on the bench.
I thought he was selling them for $5 million. Is there a sale going on? Limited time offer - just $1 million gets your foot in the door. IIRC, Rupert Murdoch basically bought his citizenship - not sure he did the five years, classes and citizenship tests, just stroked a big check.
We have to be naive if we think this court isn’t capable of overturning the constitution itself if it wants to. The question isn’t one of the law, or of precedent, but what they can get away with.
OT: I think I shared my medical diagnosis last year (January, 2025) that I was diagnosed with an incurable brain cancer (glioblastoma). Underwent chemo and radiation for initial treatment followed by another hospital stay (unrelated) and then monthly chemo treatments and MRI’s to monitor the little fucker.
Well, he’s showed back up and a growth has started in the treated area where the radiation was directed. So I get to go back under the knife for another skull-cracking session to let the neurosurgeon see what he can see.
It’s a 10-20% chance of tumor necrosis and the rest is the tumor has decided to fuck with me more. Will give you an update when I’m out of the hospital and back at the computer.
Meanwhile, you folks play nice with each other. And fuck Shitgibbon and cancer.
Shameful was when the Roberts court literally gave trump a ‘Get-out-of-jail’ card in the trump vs. United States case when they ruled that he had immunity from criminal prosecution for actions taken while in office. That was the nail in coffin for this country.
