Actually, some of our more reluctant friends finally decided to go ahead and get their shots exactly because of the travel restrictions.
We got our first AZ jabs in April and just prior to our second jabs last week, the Robert-Koch-Institut and Christian Drosten (our “Fauci” – except he’s still an active researcher) said they have discovered that AZ followed by BionTech/Pfizer seems to be a tick better in protecting against delta than two shots of either. So, our second was changed to BioNTech. Same for our 28 year old. (Our daughter is a physician, so she got her shots earlier in the year because of her job.)
Things are moving pretty quickly here, but not quickly enough. However, we do NOT have the problem of people balking at wearing masks for shopping and other stuff and there are “pop-up” quick test centers everywhere. If you don’t have your shots, you have to have a quick test and I can tell you after having swabs jammed down my nose and throat a couple of times, I would have done anything to avoid having to have that done again!
That’s something I’m watching, this phenomenon in which there’s never enough obedience to Trump. You can’t ever support him strongly enough, love him enough, or embrace his delusions and lies enough without someone screaming that it’s still not enough.
The conflict seems to be mostly a recent thing that I suspect was largely in response to climate change and a host of issues that the GOP couldn’t come up with a better reason for their base to support or oppose. So, in order to protect the fossil fuel industry, the GOP told their base that if there is any change in the climate then it’s God’s will. Since it’s God’s will, there’s nothing anyone should do about it because doing so would be in defiance of God. This is the same argument they make to justify excluding a rape or incest carve out in their abortion laws. If it’s God’s will, you can’t question it because who are we to question God?
As a 16th Century playwright might say, “What’s in a name? That which we call a fundamentalist by any other name would still be a dangerous religious fanatic."
Yes, the chickenhawk tradition continues on. BTW, I had to explain what a “chickenhawk” was to one of my ex-GOP friends. Had never heard of the term, oddly enough.
Ignorance cannot be excused as a result of poverty. It’s a lame rationalization.
Well sure stevie, you can talk about the black kid from the projects who winds up at Harvard but all the evidence points to poverty, inequality and crime as being inexorably linked. All the data says so. Show me poverty and I’ll show you crime, show me crime and I’ll show you poverty.
Well the problem that I IDed when reading the article was that the pastor stood up in front of his congregation with a Trump t-shirt on and gave a political speech.
Yesterday’s sanctions hearing was so, so enjoyable. I watches rhe Zoom, read TPM live blog and comments, the read 3 different Law Twitter hot takes. Slept like a baby.
Don’t forget the people waiting for The Rapture can’t wait until God kills 8 billion people on Earth to create an eternal paradise on Earth for the faithful - the rest get lakes of fire. And it’s all the non-believers fault.
My Fundie helper who comes by every other Saturday has refused to get a shot. Apparently they now view NOT getting a shot as a demonstration of their faith in Jesus. When I first met him I learned he doesn’t wear a seatbelt for the same stupid effin’ reason.
I told him from now on he has to wear a mask again at my house.
They’re just crazy.
Yeah like Tuckers’ dudes certainly won’t do their due diligence, investigating this. Nor when he does report this out will Tucker site who was doing the research.
I knew a fundegelical biology prof once. He taught “plant morphology” ( what plants look like) rather than “plant systematics” (understanding the evolutionary relationships between plants based on what they look like).
Apparently, you could answer the exams from either an evolutionary or creationist perspective. I never managed to see an exam, so I’m not sure what goes into the creationist answer besides “God did it”. Would seem to play bloody havoc with your grading curve.
