I am so sick of this crap. It isn’t about sports - sports and bathrooms are the two flare points located by the RW to inflame lesser minds. “Trans for everyone”, Trump crows over and over. People who know absolutely nothing about the issue keep insisting that kids are being “converted” in that mysterious diabolical black hole known as a public school.
I thought we all got smarter when they took lead out of gasoline?

i feel so bad for old time WNBA fans. years and years of not getting attention. finally, the ratings go up, attendance goes up etc AND now it’s being used as a wedge issue. must be so frustrating.

It sucks that this is getting so much media attention and that most of it is going to the right-wing propaganda machine which really couldn’t give a shit about women’s sports, let alone any women’s issues other than denying them bodily autonomy.

I was so bummed to see the controversy with the coach calling out these girls with (admittedly stupid) anti-trans signs (framed as protecting girls, but, come on). Yeah, the coach shouldn’t have berated children, but still. I’m mostly embarrassed at how many progressives think they’re being nuanced or intelligent by supporting trans rights while vocally opposing trans in sports. You’re just contributing to the scapegoating and to an issue that honestly nobody should be talking about. Might as well worry about protecting female soccer players from being struck by lightning on the pitch.
Pretty sure there are no trans women in the NBA, or in any women’s professional sports.
It would be nice to know how many trans women play in, say, D1 women’s college sports. My guess is vanishingly few, or none.
But, it’s a hate campaign. They need neither facts nor logic.

Might be more effective to just ask them why they hate women. They feign victim hood. Then go for kill with actual policies that protect women, like…
- Right to choose
- Paid maternity leave
- Equal pay
- Insurance coverage for womens health
They cant serve two masters.

What nobody talks about and I am curious is, how many people are we actually talking about? Not to mention is the outrage about trans women playing men’s sports?
Sometimes the anti-trans bigots try and make it seem like women who are biological females at birth are being denied scholarships. I saw a great post on BlueSky that posited that the issue shouldn’t be trans women edging out other women for scholarships, but rather why is college so goddamn unaffordable.
It’s not like the right-wing has ever made a good faith argument for any of their positions, but they’re able to use our inate bigotry as a tool to demonize and ‘other’ marginalized people.

After becoming a billionaire she revealed to her legions of former fans that all the stuff about tolerance and diversity in her novels was because she did not have enough money to dump hate on the people she personally disliked. Now she is famous, financially secure and can fund persecution of trans kids. Appropriate that she decided to live in a castle.

Yes, the right is exploiting and distorting trans issues to their advantage. And yes, there are relatively few biological men and boys who have participated in women’s and girls’ sports. (Though it has certainly happened.) And yes, it’s probably the rare biological male who would feign a woman’s appearance and identity in order to gain access to a women’s locker room or other traditionally female spaces. And yes, in the big scheme of things, competitive sports aren’t even all that important as far as many of us are concerned.
But rules and laws aren’t designed just to prevent common transgressions and crimes. Rules and laws acknowledge that their are many people in the world with many different motivations. And if an activity is widespread enough, there are going to be instances of people who cheat and pursue unfair advantage in order to appear to be successful in that activity. Some few people will even scheme and cheat in ways that seem counter-productive, unsatisfying and minimally rewarding. So developing rules that keep biological men out of women’s sports doesn’t strike most of us, even many of us on the left, as ridiculous or unnecessary or unfair or “a solution in search of a problem.”
Defending the right of trans women and girls to compete in organized competition set up for females is a losing issue for the left. And it’s a losing issue because we’re not, in this case, on the side of fairness and justice. And the notion that “it’s no big deal because it doesn’t happen very often” cuts both ways. If it’s true that only a minuscule number of biological males have or will attempt to compete in female sports, then it’s also true that only a minuscule number of trans women and girls will be disadvantaged by rules preventing such participation.

ICYMI, JK Rowling owes you NOTHING. Absolutely nothing. She invented a fairy tale world, and millions of lonely people moved in. But they’re not owed Rowling’s allegiance or obedience. The trans community needs to STFU and move on. Every time they whine about Rowling, they reveal just how emotionally stunted they are. Move the fuck on already.
Sophie’s comments were perfectly reasonable and normal. Who wants biological males in a girls’ locker room? Gender extremism is a large part of what gave us Trump. Try to be normal and cool, Dems. This is not a battle to ever engage.
