Great, then they need to elect a new sheriff.

Would that be because the AI HR director has all of us killed because they don’t need workers any more?

A “superintelligence” such as the one Meta is building would likely be morally ambivalent. “I don’t want to kill all the humans, but I have to” kind of deal. And it’s pretty hard to kill everybody. No telling where humans might hide.

It was a morbid task. We went about it by analyzing exactly how AI might exploit three major threats commonly perceived to be existential risks: nuclear war, biological pathogens and climate change.

Climate change would certainly create scarcity, and pathogens, while safe for the machine, are pretty undependable. That leaves nukes, which are impractical despite quick results as the consequences linger for several hundred thousand years, maybe longer. Likely the AI would advise inappropriate government policies such as eliminating healthcare and education, encouraging hydrocarbon producers and punishing renewable energy companies, as well as creating massive fiscal imbalances. Of course, the AI could just take a wait-and-see position as we are doing a great job with the Sixth Great Extinction Event even without the help of AI.

Reminds me of the midnight massacre of Black Panthers. Shot and killed in their beds.

I think it would be amoral – at least to begin with. I suppose it could have algorithms for what an ethical human would perceive as “right” or “wrong”, kind or cruel, but I probably don’t know what I’m talking about.

Autocracies are noted for developing corruption on all levels.
But, “The fish rots from the head” as say the Italians.
