The Mysterious Roads of ‘Alligator Alcatraz’

Partisan appropriations means spending dictated and controlled by the Trump administration. Bipartisanship means “negotiations” between the administration and the GOP Congress.

Her flying monkey (well, monkey) Tom Homan admitted it.

Truth not on your side? Act meaner.

It took them a thousand FBI agents working 24/7 to figure this out? I could have told them right away and without even looking.

What is totally undeniable is they poured over these files with really only one thing to determine: could they release them without incriminating Trump and the answer was “absolutely not.”

Republicans have reveled in the idea… even launching a merch line.

Certainly, the profits will revert to the American people who are paying for this “show prison.”

I’m with @zenicetus on this one. Trump is thumbing his nose at the GOP controlled House with respect to the budget and will continue to do so if the Dems take control next year. The only way to restore constitutional order is for the federal courts, and ultimately the Supreme Court, to stop the Executive overreach into the budgetary process, which is a blatant violation of the clear separation of powers. I don’t see that as even a remote possibility.

Would Trump order them destroyed? I could see him doing that. I could also see one of more of his toadies seeing to it unbidden, or when Trump talks like a mob boss. “Miller, I sure wish those files didn’t exist. I’m sure there’s nothing there, but they’re a real distraction”.

Any government who would willingly send people who, at the worst, have committed a misdemeanor, illegal entry, to an El Salvador prison camp without due process would not hesitate to destroy evidence.

Okay, per the behaviors of trump and his little boots mini-me DeSantis, the Executive has all the powers of enforcement to use anyway he chooses. As a corollary, no laws passed by the legislative branch or the constitution, nor the rulings of the judicial system, can affect him in any way. Because he’s the Enforcer!

Then the only power a Democratic House would have would be investigations and subpoenas, which would be ignored, or turn off the money completely, as in shutting down the government, in which case Trump assumes emergency powers, etc, etc.

Perhaps he’ll just die.

Exactly. And building Alligator Auschwitz as an unsolicited gift, like the big gilded Saudi airplane, is meant to buy trump’s consideration for when those hurricanes do hit.

Note that trump is abolishing FEMA, stating that if some disaster hits, he wants the appropriate officials to come crawling to him to beg, on bended knee, for his help and largesse. DeSantis hopes that the pre-abasement gifting will do the trick.

I wonder why he hasn’t already. Why that wasn’t the first thing he did on taking office. But I suspect there are too many witnesses now, witnesses who are already leaking. They may have made physical copies too, for all I know. Rank and file FBI don’t enjoy looking the other way from serious crimes.

It’s all broken now. And the pieces seem too small to put it all back together again. The midterms, if they happen at all, will not solve these issues. And by 2028 the damage will be complete. I don’t see any other way this plays out.

One wonders what kind of brutal upbringing these men went through. Apparently unloved, never receiving affection or care, arbitrary punishments for little things, emotional isolation and abandonment. Something broke them early – so they want everybody else to get broken, too.

I continue to think that “normal politics” alone will not get us out of this mess.

Will Trump travel to Beijing to meet with Xi and Putin?

Xi would like to thank Trump personally for making China great again. Every misstep, from devaluation of the dollar, attacking central bank independence, blowing up supply chains, sowing distrust among American allies, and doing many other things that generally benefit China. The BRICS are a thing again, and China is touting itself as the big friend of the global south. He might even swing an invite to the opening of the China-Russia Moon Base set to open at the lunar south pole in 2034.

It would also be a slap to Taiwan, of course.

I actually think that, over time, if we have a more partisan appropriations process for a time, it will lead to more bipartisanship.

Okay.

So, let’s have a partisan appropriations process led by Democrats and, after that, Republicans can compromise with us.

Seems to me this could’ve been done quickly by simply using a word search in the files. There are a couple of iterations that could’ve been checked and even with thousands of pages wouldn’t have taken all that long.

Trump was President at the time of the Epstein trial and conviction. That would have been the time for Trump and AG Barr to destroy any actual criminal evidence against Trump, before handing off the DOJ and all its case material to the incoming Biden administration.

This is the main reason I believe there’s nothing actually incriminating for Trump in the files. Just info that’s embarrassing, like the birthday letter to Epstein that they didn’t bother to clean up, flight logs, that kind of thing.

Which raises the question of why he isn’t releasing all the info now? It could be to avoid lawsuits by named individuals - the “clients,” victims, and witnesses.

It could also be that there are prominent Republicans mentioned as clients who Trump doesn’t want named. Good blackmail material in that case, but now we’re getting into rabbit hole conspiracy territory.

ETA: On that last bit, I don’t think Trump/Barr would have left any R names in the files handed over to Biden’s DOJ. So probably scratch that idea.

The 1000 people going through files sounds bogus to me. Perhaps much of it isn’t digitized? But that could be done. So it just seems like another attempt to give the impression something is being done when it isn’t. Unless it is being done to make certain they can delete Trump’s name or anything else about him.
