The Mueller Interference Everyone Feared Has Happened — Just Two Years Late | Talking Points Memo

This is disturbing on so many levels but what sticks with me is all these people that Mueller ‘uncovered’ went on to plead guilty because they knew they were. They KNEW they conspired with a foreign power and they knew it was wrong. Now between Barr and Trump they have learned it just simply doesn’t matter and they have embraced it.

“I don’t think anyone’s losing any sleep over it at the Department of Justice,” the spokesperson said.

BULLSHIT. Maybe the corrupt individuals are not losing any sleep, but I am sure the rest of the department is – along with those of us in the public and legal system who are ethical and are paying attention and give a damn.

If I am not mistaken, I believe it’s been delayed because of the shutdown of the court system.

But they are equally disgusting.

There’s a glaring absence in all of this - Mueller. Where is he? There’s been endless talk about his by-the-book approach, about his dedication to the law, and yet he stands by silently as this administration attacks his reputation and undermines all of the work that he and the team he supposedly trusted did. Pairing his silence with his findings of obstruction without recommending action paints him even more as a partisan hack. Yet another “principled” Republican willing to protect this president, even at the expense of his own character, even at the expense of the law he claimed to serve.

Well, it’s pretty obvious what Democrats must do when they win both chambers of Congress and the White House. We must appoint Mueller to re-investigate and save our democracy by putting all of his colleagues and personal friends in jail. /s

I think even the most ethical, dedicated public servants have to get inured and worn down over time when subjected to these work conditions. Might be like getting cancer. Upon your initial diagnosis you tell yourself there’s no damn way this is going to kill you, and you put on a brave face and genuinely fight it tooth and nail. Then as the weeks and months go by you tire of the battle. Your determination to whip it and win might still be there, beneath the haggard shell of a mind and body that is now you. It all takes a toll, and little by little you surrender some of that zeal for the challenge. It’s not a moral failing, it’s just being human.

What would you have him do? He completed his mandate, turned things over to Congress, it’s their job to take it from there.

People need to stop looking for some single person like they can be the knight in shining armor to just ride into town and save us from the dragon.

Our system doesn’t work that way.

And what are we hearing from Robert Mueller way? Crickets. You are either a patriot or a collaborator, patriots do face personal risk. His failure to speak more forcefully to Congress and his silence since indicates that he knew all along that this was going to happen and went along with it, after all Barr is his personal friend. And no speaking after Trump leaves office does not make you brave, and that goes for General Mattis as well.

I know a political party should be able to walk and chew gum at the same time. But if Dems take both the WH and Congress we’ll still be immersed in a wrecked, limping economy and dealing with the ravages of an ongoing pandemic. There will also be multiple damaged relationships to mend with nations all over the planet. Meting out punishment for the actions of the previous administration might be a dubious use of political capital for an incoming Prez and a new Senate majority.

Barr is just digging his own grave, and with that lard ass, it takes some time.

Just curious, what do you think Mattis could say that would make MoscowMitch run over to Nancy’s office to plead with her to send over new impeachment articles so he can approve them?

Because everything less of that would just shatter the country even more than it is, and folks like General Mattis calculate exactly that point. If they can alter the outcome, then they’ll speak up. I expect we’ll be hearing from some of these folks as we get closer to the election, when their voice may make a difference.

Nice summary but none of this is news. We know all this.

The real question is what Biden and his DoJ and AG will do about it if he wins. Will they sweep it all under the rug in the name of bipartisan looking-forward pony healing? Will they make a show of addressing this while actually not? Or will they do what needs to be done, resulting in various officials going to federal prison (assuming that Trump didn’t preemptively pardon them all)?

My view is that if he doesn’t do the latter, he won’t just be a feckless coward who makes a shame of judtice. He’ll be a damn fool, like Obama was with Bush’s people and banksters, because it will just empower Repubs to come back and beat him or his successor in 2024, if not in 2022. Some times you really do have to take some people out back and deal with them properly.

Truth, yes, reconciliation, fuck no. They need to reconcile themselves to us, not the other way around. You don’t negotiate with, accommodate or reward terrorists, fascists and thugs.

He failed to speak forcefully to Congress, hiding behind a bunch of legalese. Even after the AG stated that the investigation absolved the President.

Lousy excuse. Does Trump, Barr, McConnel and the rest of the bastards work by the “system”?

There is the system that we had and there’s the system that we have.
I think there’s a Rumsfeld quote that makes that point…/s (sort of)

"There’s an alternate universe where the Flynn case
would have been wrapped up before Barr was even confirmed."

Where most would have felt a sense of normalcy with this alternative? We would not have been privy to the indicator of Trump and Barr’s progress-- on their timeline to a dictatorship.

This abuse-- should have and did-- cause alarms to go off among DOJ prosecutorial alum. The secondary and more serious warning of the Trump cabal’s intent to steal the upcoming election at any and all costs to our republic.

Something evil this way comes. Will we be ready to dispense with it democratically?

I mean it literally. What singular person can stop trump, legally?

Our Congress could, but the Senate won’t.

Everyone running around looking to point fingers at any individual and saying, “if only they had spoken more forcefully/done something else, we’d be rid of trump” is living in a dream world.

He’s literally murdering Americans by the tens of thousands right now, and has confederate flag-waving folks cheering him on.

We wont. Willing to bet a case of beer that we will hear from them after the election, if Trump loses, with a tell-all book designed to rack the millions.

I’m really doubtful of that, but I won’t totally discount the possibility.
Hey, I’ve been known to buy lottery tickets on occasion.

Maybe not. But those with integrity spoke out even at personal risk to themselves. Lt Col. Vindman, Marie Yovanovich, Bill Taylor, Jennifer Williams, Fiona Hill, Tim Morrison. None of those, said: “I wont make a difference”. Cowards and collaborators remained silent, Gral. Kelly, John Bolton, Mike Pompeo, McGahn.
