He should do what Justice Sotomayor said he should do, and send seal team 6 to eliminate his political rivals.
Biden already imploded. I support the man, I love the man, but he imploded. How can Trump possibly implode worse than Biden did?
The first Friday in October 2016 the Access Hollywood tape came out. No one thought Trump could win- weeks later the Comey letter was out- stuff happens- keep the faith.
That’s because Roberts expects an opportunity to hand the election to Trump.
GOP-led states passed a raft of terrible laws to make voting harder over the past 2 years, and some of those laws still stand. That, plus all the Big Lie from 2020, guarantees quite a few lawsuits, and the GOP will run them all the way to SCOTU$.
One thing Roberts hopes for: that Dems will have to swap candidates at the last minute, and thus that there will many ballot inconsistencies, allowing Roberts to toss out whole ballots. That will hand all races, up and down the ticket, to the GOP, in the affected jurisdictions, which could be as wide as whole states.
Roberts is salivating at the prospect of handing practically ever race to the GOP this cycle, regardless of Dem turnout.
So if there is this “presumption of immunity” can it be disproven like innocence can, where there is a “presumption of innocence”? That would be the job for Jack Smith now, I guess.
If Biden isn’t re-elected the American experiment in democracy is over. The Roberts court just made the next president an emperor. GOTV and win or it’s all over.
From der Siebenschläfer at Bluesky: a [partial] list of George III’s “official acts”:
He has refused his Assent to Laws, the most wholesome and necessary for the public good.
He has forbidden his Governors to pass Laws of immediate and pressing importance, unless suspended in their operation till his Assent should be obtained; and when so suspended, he has utterly neglected to attend to them.
He has refused to pass other Laws for the accommodation of large districts of people, unless those people would relinquish the right of Representation in the Legislature, a right inestimable to them and formidable to tyrants only.
He has called together legislative bodies at places unusual, uncomfortable, and distant from the depository of their public Records, for the sole purpose of fatiguing them into compliance with his measures.
He has dissolved Representative Houses repeatedly, for opposing with manly firmness his invasions on the rights of the people.
He has refused for a long time, after such dissolutions, to cause others to be elected; whereby the Legislative powers, incapable of Annihilation, have returned to the People at large for their exercise; the State remaining in the mean time exposed to all the dangers of invasion from without, and convulsions within.
He has endeavoured to prevent the population of these States; for that purpose obstructing the Laws for Naturalization of Foreigners; refusing to pass others to encourage their migrations hither, and raising the conditions of new Appropriations of Lands.
He has obstructed the Administration of Justice, by refusing his Assent to Laws for establishing Judiciary powers.
He has made Judges dependent on his Will alone, for the tenure of their offices, and the amount and payment of their salaries.
He has erected a multitude of New Offices, and sent hither swarms of Officers to harrass our people, and eat out their substance.
He has kept among us, in times of peace, Standing Armies without the Consent of our legislatures.
He has affected to render the Military independent of and superior to the Civil power.
He has combined with others to subject us to a jurisdiction foreign to our constitution, and unacknowledged by our laws; giving his Assent to their Acts of pretended Legislation:
For Quartering large bodies of armed troops among us:
For protecting them, by a mock Trial, from punishment for any Murders which they should commit on the Inhabitants of these States:
For cutting off our Trade with all parts of the world:
For imposing Taxes on us without our Consent:
For depriving us in many cases, of the benefits of Trial by Jury:
For transporting us beyond Seas to be tried for pretended offences
SCOTUS may lose interest, but we sure as hell shouldn’t—this majority opinion showed the need to expand and reform SCOTUS should Biden win.
Won’t work. Everything President Biden (or any Democrat) does is an unofficial act and can be prosecuted. Anything Don the convicted (or any Republican) does is an official act and can never be prosecuted.
The 6 Operatives should pray to their invisible Cloud being that Dark Brandon doesn’t decide to play by their rules. Remember FDR.
In the last four years the sound rule of giving statutes the benefit of all reasonable doubt has been cast aside. The Court has been acting not as a judicial body, but as a policy-making body.
What can Biden realistically do now that presidents have this broad swath of immunity? Leaving Seal Team 6 out of this question.
A while back, a comedian talked about the lack of attempts on TFG’s life. He lamented, “this country used to do things…”
This is about as close to it as I’ll come to truly speaking my mind on what we should do.
Well put. The rightwing majority was probably stunned at how easy they installed W. After that they just kept barreling over every decision not favorable to repubs.
It’s not within Biden to do something that he feels is unconstitutional.
That said, this reaction from Biden surrogates doesn’t portend well…
# The John Roberts Guide To Doing A Coup And Not Getting Caught
Liked this article just for the appropriate headline.
(Article body wasn’t bad either)
As expected, the Supremes have gone rogue, as Jefferies said (even worse than many of us thought). Question is, what can we do about it, except to vote. I doubt Jefferies has a solution he promised, but more power to him if he does.
Possibly this decision, Dobbs, anti-Chevron, etc. will result in a backlash against Trump.
Here’s hoping
Do they care who wins? They’ve got 6-3 for a long time. And they can keep carving more power to themselves should they desire more, regardless of who is current president. And if they wanted to give immunity to future president trump, why issue while Biden is president? They could’ve waited a year, no?
I guess, since the corrupt Citizens United decision (thanks, Justice “Dark Money” Roberts!), decreeing that spending is speech, all the dark king’s dark spending is protected speech. (I need an emoji here that doesn’t exist.)
Imploded? How so?
From one debate? Not likely.
One of the things we learned when Mitch McConnell refused to hold hearings for Merrick Garland was that one way to win is to simply never litigate the issue.
The Supreme Court can’t rule against Biden if they are all in jail.
Denial doesn’t change reality.
Sadly, it is often the case that voting has to be strategic, especially when democrazy (as imperfect as it is) is at stake, and very frequently there is only one candidate who’s in good faith with that. It’s not fun. But it is reality, I think because democracy is practically always going to be under attack, there will always be people trying to hack it and take over. We always have to defend it from them first, before we can get to the place where you make forward progress. It isn’t easy. But it’s what we have to do.
