So, you know, Mike Pence is in a very awkward place. He was part of an administration and is loyal to a former president who almost literally was telling people to go and harm him physically. And so, if he thinks he can somehow convince this movement to get behind him, even as he sort of licks the shoes of the person who has scorned him, cursed him and threatened him, you know, good luck with that. It doesn’t seem to be working. The polls don’t suggest that it seems to be a viable strategy.

Just a comment on donald and his beautiful boxes of stolen artifacts.
He’s a criminal , a common thief. Has been all his life. He steals “stuff” and then says he didn’t. Then he says he did, because it’s all his anyway. And then he has Waltine move boxes around. Then he lies about that. Then he lies about saying “hocus-pocus, I declare these unclassified.” And he’s never gonna stop with this bullshit, until his mouth can’t make word salads anymore.
He is one, hot mess of a motherfucker. This should be a pretty easy shut-and-closed case. But, noes…
Just take SWAT teams into MAL and Bedminster and Doral and Ireland/Scotland, and his airplane, and his toilets and storage lockers everywhere and confiscate it all and truck it up to the National Archives and let them decide what to do with it. For the entire period that the GOP was Islamophobic (remember that? Now apparently the GOP is courting Muslims in their anti-gay jihad) India was considered our enemy’s enemy, and therefore a friend.
But I have an odd premonition that the USG’s current attempt to woo India into a strategic alliance will eventually come a cropper. Hindu nationalism is every bit as insane as Islamic extremism (or for that matter Christian fundamentalism or the crap in Israel that’s going on now as Netanyahu tries to destroy the last vestige of rule of law).
Sooner or later, the club of the dictators thing will take over and Modi will decide he has a lot more in common with Putin, et al., than with the US or other democracies.
The West got a ridiculously caricatured picture of “Eastern religions” in the 1960s with the Beatles and so forth. Hinduism is the caste system, suttee, and intercommunal violence. Just as our picture of Buddhism may have been a wee bit optimistic in view of what’s going on in Myanmar.
If you look at the existential problems we face as a world, religion could well be the cause of our extinction as a species, as the asteroid was for the dinosaurs.
