I read that article this morning and thought if AI doesn’t find us unnecessary beforehand, “Misaligned” will be a great title for a new sci-fi thriller (if not a documentary by the time it wraps), in the same vein as “Minority Report” back in 2002.

I have a terrific idea! We count the “illegals” as three-fifths of a person…problem solved! It continues to amaze me that these morons can’t read the plain and simple language of the Constitution. All persons means ALL PERSONS. Of course, this leads to them counting embryos and fetuses as “persons.” God help us all. Squeaker Johnson is a clueless POS who kisses the President’s ass. Will the census have the rule written that they count all whole persons in red states only and ignore the whole persons in blue states. While I understand the thinking is that more immigrants live in mainly blue states, I think the GOP is cutting off the hand that feeds them. The red states will lose whole persons as well. This just may backfire on them - either losing in court or losing their numbers.

In the 1790 census, free non-citizens were counted as “persons” in the federal census. That includes some of my direct ancestors and their aunts, uncles, and cousins who came to Baltimore from England in the very late 1780’s. I am sure many thousands of other examples could be cited in briefs submitted to this “originalist” SCOTUS.
ETA: I.e., “full persons.”

Such facts as these are likely to clarify, whether SCOTUS is “originalist” or are more clearly reactionary. Either way, I think that much of this country has had enough of their shit.

If they want to change the Constitution through a Constitutional amendment, there is a procedure for that.
The issues raised above (and the other questions raised in this article) are resolved in a third option: to abandon fetal personhood altogether and determine that legal personhood begins at birth.

Yes, shifting the census count is a redistributive scheme as well as an electoral scheme designed to short change certain parts of the country [like Donnie withholding disaster relief] and leading to relative impoverishment as the local government must decide how to meet obligations with decreased means.

Perhaps the “originalists” on the Supreme Court might want to review the history of the American Revolution. More probably, CJ Roberts will simply decree that we now live in a post-revolutionary society so the colonial fears about “If taxes are laid upon us in any shape without ever having a legal representative where they are laid, are we not reduced from the character of free subjects to the miserable state of tributary slaves?” (Samuel Adams) is merely an historical artifact.

We allow criminals and con men to change the rules, cheat, lie, steal, abuse the legal system, generally do everything to steal power short of shooting people and we just stick our fingers up our collective assholes and go, “Der, that seems okay to me.” I swear to fucking god, the decent people in this country are about as fucking stupid and useless as Lloyd in “Dumb and Dumber.” I know the legal system is deliberate and cautious, but we face a domestic enemy who is merrily using that deliberation and caution as weapons against us. While we’re playing by the rules, they’re rewriting the rules and we fucking go along with it. At what point does common sense kick in? At what point do we slap down these disingenuous lies and call them out? At what point do we stand up and fucking fight these bastards? Je-sus fucking christ already
