People who either vote GOP or don’t vote need to share some blame here. I mean I kind of understand why billionaires and evangelicals vote that way but it makes no rational sense for anyone else.

It makes me wonder, if there deliberations were part of a different criminal conspiracy (say buying land to resell at a profit when they approve a government project on it,) would it also be protected by privilege and, if not, why not?

The lawsuits are taking so long to resolve that six states conducted their 2022 elections under maps that had been ruled illegal by lower courts

Gerrymandering is one of those things that should be unilaterally illegal because it’s so f’d, yet is somehow completely legal.

I am not any kind of lawyer, but that is certainly the way I saw this, too, and it made me wonder: can the federal government file a RICO suit against the Texas state legislature? Or at least against the politicos who are promoting these schemes? It makes no sense for a legislature to be able to do the people’s business in secret in a democracy. (Yeah, I know, Republicans don’t really believe in democracy, and this makes it very evident. But the rest of us happen to think the we’re supposed to be living in one.)
