As someone of French extraction I sometimes enjoy jokes against the French without guilt (“The reason there are so many tree-lined boulevards in Paris is so the German army can march in the shade”) but the reason the Dunkirk evacuation was possible at all was that the French Army was fighting a delaying action, and all who did so were captured.

Yup. I’m trying to remember where the whole “surrender monkey” bullshit narrative got started and the googles claims it was an offhand joke from a '90s Simpsons episode that was taken up and amplified by Republicans after the French refused to buy into the whole Iran/Iraq/Afghanistan bullshit so out came the tar brushes.
Maybe we shouldn’t yet again be echoing Republican bullshit talking points…

The Simpsons did start the “Cheese eating surrender monkeys” line (though Groundskeeper Willy is not a person one would consider a source of sage wisdom) but that the writers came up with that is due to long standing jokes like the one I listed.
That joke I see sometimes attributed to Patton, but I am sure this is a mis-attribution since there are no swear words in it.

Indeed. So I am an outlier not having had “reigious community pressure .. Grateful My conmmunity had morals based on religion But there was no oressure. Gestating was an economic lift than choice moreso than an “moral” choice The overarching choice was practical. ..can u take care of the child ?

The bank crisis of 2008 was not prosecutable. What these sleesebags did was within existing laws…just barely, but enough to keep Jamie Dimon and others out of jail. Do not blame Obama for adhering to the laws. What we need is a whole lot of new laws that will prevent assholes like these greedy bastards from doing this again.

Actually you can’t think of anything the people who nearly destroyed America did anything illegal. The hell with that kind of non-investigation investigation.
Sorry, but do some looking up. There were no laws against the crimes that they did…Many years of Republican “lawmakers” tilting tax laws, corporate laws, and every other “break” that the billionaires want…and obviously with Democratic patsies being complicit, have brought us here.
. These Wall Streeters could not be prosecuted. There SHOULD have been laws to rein in their greed and incompetence, but the oligarchs have owned this government for many years.
Going forward, you can campaign for Congress to overhaul both the banking laws ( because a lot of the disaster came down to allowing Banks to be “investment Advisors” and all that entails and Wall street firms to become banks) and our immigration laws, which are clearly not serving either White, “christian” males, or the people who are fleeing mayhem in their home countries.

If that was the case, how do you defend any of the Republicans or Democrats in power. Most of the years leading up to the Crisis Democrats were running Congress.
You can’t tell me you can’t find some mail fraud or other charge in the 2008 mess. Make the bastards squirm. Don’t encourage their banks to give them bonuses for destroying the economy. That is a real John Roberts move.
Agreed, Nothing much was done after the panic subsided to introduce any new legislation to make sure it cannot happen again. As for punishment, there is going to have to be a cultural shift that the general public goes through where men who enrich themselves by harming others are made pariahs, where incompetence is NOT rewarded and where we demand some damn integrity of the people who sit on Boards and watch (collecting easy money for being there) while they know crime and stupidity are going on. We haver a part to play also. Each and every one of us need to understand that making lots of money does not necessarily indicate brilliance or worth as a human being. LUCK is involved…and so is ruthlessness. These men who do NOTHING for the common good should be shunned and criticized endlessly. Hospitals, great libraries, schools and many other public facilities have been built with private dollars from philanthropic million/billionaires. What has Jeff Bezos done? What has Zuckerberg done? What is Musk doing? Nada.
They are buying favor with an equally immoral, greedy POS who by some warp in the timeline of history has all the power to make or break their quest to capture even a greater percentage of the wealth of this country.
