Russia is pulling out all the stops because it needs to stop the bleeding of its economy. Pursuing the war next year will be qualitatively different. Ordinarily, you do not sell off your gold reserves from the national sovereign wealth fund (NWF). Like Trump, Putin has to keep the conversation elsewhere than economic damage and corruption. Selling gold keeps the focus elsewhere.
- Before the invasion, the NWF itself had accumulated 405.7 tons of gold. Since then, more than half (232.6 tons) has been sold to cover budget spending. On Nov. 1, 2025, there were 173.1 tons of gold in the fund. The total volume of NWF liquid assets, in either gold or Chinese yuan, has fallen 55% to 4.165 trillion rubles (about $52 billion). In relative terms, the volume of liquid assets has plunged from 7.3% of Russia’s GDP before the war to 1.9% today. This is due not only to active drawdowns, but also to the nominal strengthening of the ruble.

What happens to Michael Leavitt’s son if DonOLD somehow gets birth right citizenship abolished? I just know in my bones that DonOLD doesn’t care if a kid was born in the US before he gets his destruction of birth right citizenship passed, he’ll want all of them gone. And half-breeds will not be an exception.

I tried. My roux burned in a split second after spending nearly an hour working it. That was my first and last attempt at a roux and I wasted everything (loads of prep and more than a few hours) and won’t be trying it again. Was the biggest waste of food and biggest failure I have had cooking, ever. I don’t do fancy, but I also don’t ruin things or waste food.
I suspect, when done properly, the outcome is divine; but I was in over my head.
ETA: I don’t recall all the steps/order for the gumbo. If I had known what a good roux was or what I did wrong and when…I might not have wasted all the other ingredients. But I had added it to everything by that point and the whole huge recipe (two turkey carcasses) all the bone broth, all the veggies tasted like burnt mud. Threw it out.
