The Election Assistance Commission (EAC) is an independent agency of the United States government created by the Help America Vote Act of 2002 (HAVA). The Commission serves as a national clearinghouse and resource of information regarding election administration. It is charged with administering payments to states and developing guidance to meet HAVA requirements, adopting voluntary voting system guidelines, and accrediting voting system test laboratories and certifying voting equipment. It is also charged with developing and maintaining a national mail voter registration form.

There’s some good bit of info in the other story this morning.
In March 2025, Trump issued a sweeping executive order that directed the EAC to change the national voter registration form — which serves as the template for the forms in each state — to require proof of U.S. citizenship to register to vote. Currently, voters in almost all states attest to their citizenship under penalty of perjury, but they are not required to provide proof

Lets be real. For every article that begins like this. Trump didn’t come up with this. His people did. They throw it by him, he goes yep, yep, yep and puts his seal of approval on it. We are not up against Trump, but the system behind him that keeps him propped up while they chase their individual prerogatives.

Victor Marx seems to be the second coming of Tim Ballard (of Operation Underground Railroad and the Christian fiction thriller “Sound of Freedom” that Trump showed at the White House) one state over.
Just like Ballard, Marx makes this highly questionable claim of “he goes on high-risk missions around the globe to save women and children”–…Wonder if there’s any chance he’ll get caught out and lose popularity as happened to Ballard. I mean, if the Saints in and out the church hierarchy can turn against a former favorite alleged child saver, maybe there’s hope Colorado can do it, too? …I guess I’m in grasping-at-straws mode here.
I guess I should have known that Ballard’s so-called mission must sound so enticing to other Chriistian-conservative “alpha males” that he wouldn’t be the only one doing it, despite the failed outcome for him. (he seemed to actually think he was going to become both President of the U.S. and Presdient of the Church, presumably simultaneously…I suppose this wacko has similar dreams.)

The press stories about this primary have been simply appalling. “The” story has been the Big Bad Socialist (Egads! Healthcare for poor people! What a crazy person!) running for the Dem nom in CO-01 (she won).
I’d like to point out that the reason we’re debating how many people Victor Marx has killed as an adult is because we’ve already accepted as normal his claim that he killed a man when he was seven. (To be fair, his stepfather made him do it. Jeebus forgave it. Let’s move on.)

If his Democratic opponent doesn’t win this Nov., poor Coloradans face a very long four years with this guy in charge. Hard to find anyone worse than Polis at this point, but I think they found one with Victor Marx. Man oh man is he cuckoo…but such a manly man. The only type that MAGA approves of, beard and all.

That was my reaction until I read a bit more about the CO primary election and learned that Marx barely defeated Barbara Kirkmeyer (39.9% to 34.5%, as I recall) and that a third candidate, Scott Bottoms, came in a distant third (20% or so IIRC). Kirkmeyer has had a long career in public offices, including her current office as a state senator. Bottoms has been a rep to the CO General Assembly since 2023. So, maybe two fairly respectable candidates split the not-batshit-crazy Repub vote?
Not that simple. Kirkmeyer is rabidly anti-abortion but calls herself a “common sense conservative” and stayed away from the Colorado Republican State Assembly, whose delegates put Bottoms (first) and Marx (second) on the primary ballot. Kirkmeyer got herself on the ballot. (CO’s system allows for different routes.) She doesn’t seem to spout Trumpian lies and that sort of thing, so at least a third of CO registered Repub voters aren’t batshit crazy? And maybe 50%, if Bottoms is another “common sense” type conservative?
Hardly. When I looked into Bottoms (what an unfortunate surname), I realized I’d read a little about him before. Pastor of a church in Colorado Springs and a total Trumpster. From the Wikipedia article on him:
Bottoms is considered one of the most conservative members in the state legislature.[5] He has previously described himself as part of the political far-right and as “anti-establishment”.[6] Bottoms called abortion and transgender rights “demonic” while running for state representative in 2022.[6][7] He has also falsely claimed that Planned Parenthood sells the body parts of aborted fetuses and that during the January 6 attack of the Capitol, the FBI “lured” the rioters into the building.[6] Bottoms has also promoted election-related conspiracy theories.[5] In 2026, Bottoms claimed that he was working with the FBI since 2023 to uncover three separate pedophile rings at the State Capitol — one each in the Office of Governor, State House and State Senate.[8]
If Bottoms had withdrawn from the race, it’s hard to say whether his voters would have voted for Marx or Kirkmeyer, or just stayed home. I wouldn’t be surprised if Marx would have won with a majority, defeating Kirkmeyer soundly. (And if Bottoms hadn’t thrown his hat into the ring in the first place, who knows what flavor of crazy the Repub General Assembly would have put on the ballot instead of him?)
Adding together the votes for Bottoms and for Marx, we can confidently conclude that over half of the Repub primary voters in CO are batshit crazy. No wonder the state has gone blue.

Pretty sure the next governor of Colorado, successor of current traitor governor Jared Polis, will be Democrat Phil Weiser. I’m good with that.
