Azar won’t be ditched anytime soon. It is undoubtedly obvious, but Trump has exactly the guy he wants doing exactly what he and his big pharma supporters want him doing.
When Trump’s usual incompetence blows up in everyone’s faces, then Azar will be he first to be thrown over board. Trump will undoubtedly claim that he barely knew the guy. Trump would never get rid of a guy just for being incapable of doing a job, or for being dishonest, for that matter.

Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness. Remember that shit? That was the beginning of what we call America and stated concisely what our Founders thought was the reason for a country and a government to exist. To see to it those inalienable rights are had. They followed up with “Of, By and For the People” when they got down to the biz of making America. At no time did they scoff at government taking care of people. Taking care of people was the idea. The Bill of Rights ensured that our new government would not become the horror of life under the King and his Church. It does not prohibit government caring for people. It just prohibits them from fucking with them. That was the theory but not so much the practice today.
A Privatization Capitalist mentality makes it impossible to honor our Founders original intent. To men with that mindset the people are to be extracted and no doubt that’s what drives Azar. He was put there for that purpose. Life if you can pay for it, Liberty if it’s good for the GOP and you can be Happy as long as what you’re doing makes the GOP happy.
He’ll kill people to make a buck. So did King George.

If the method to address this virus is to thwart it with a vaccine … then it has to be kept in mind that virtually all business cases for a vaccine are lukewarm at best .
- vaccines are essentially “one time” transactions … there is typically no “recurring revenue stream” because, unlike an ongoing course of treatment for a disease - with a typical vaccine "the show’s over … the disease (for this patient) is essentially eradicated.
- Pharma company risk management / product liability people groan when thinking about vaccines … because, unlike a drug that passes through the patient’s system in a relatively short time … a vaccine, in concept & by design stays as a part of you for a long long time - if not forever.
There are many many legitimate criticisms that can be leveled at various pharma companies … but proclamations that “big pharma” is salivating at the idea of hitting the jackpot with a Corona virus vaccine is pretty much nonsense.
Pence, who is supposed to be the primary official on this, is tied to PhARMA via his longstanding support from Eli Lilly (biggest company in Indiana). The Surgeon general (kindof invisible in all this so far) is another Hoosier who’s probably indebted. An exit fro Azar wouldn’t change much.
Yours and other comments here remind me that historians will have a new “Most Corrupt Administration in History”. No contest here.
