The 4 Most Eye-Popping Statements Mulvaney Made On G-7 And Ukraine | Talking Points Memo

In a stunning display of apathy about President Trump’s apparent efforts to promote his business and his reelection prospects while conducting foreign policy, acting chief of staff Mick Mulvaney on Thursday made several startling admissions during a press briefing at the White House.

Glad to know Trumper Tantrum isn’t the only very stable genius hanging out in the White House

Violation of Emoluments Clause by the Extortionist-In-Chief!

Solicitation (foreign & domestic) re:US elections = UNLAWFUL

Foreign Policy using Quid Pro Quo for American Interest = LAWFUL

Foreign Policy using Quid Pro Quo for Trump’s election & Putin’s Redemption = UNLAWFUL

Mulvaney did not explicitly say he could think of anything unethical or even define the word, but he certainly implied it.

It’s one thing to have a chaotic, corrupt foreign policy as well as being self-dealing, but it is a totally separate and stupid and self-incriminating thing to publicly advertise and try to rationalize it. This administration is shamelessly corrupt to its core.

Mulvaney’s throwing Trump under the bus before Trump gets the chance. Smart move by the little elf. I assume he’s lawyered up by now.

Just when you think all the wheels have already fallen off, now you have a situation where the President can’t trust his own acting Chief of Staff, and probably can’t even replace him if he wanted.

“So you would say that it’s fine to ask about the DNC but not about Biden?” the reported then asked.

“That’s a hypothetical because that did not happen here,” the acting chief of staff responded.

Oh, I understand now. That didn’t happen. There was never ever a request by Trump or anyone acting on his behalf, to dig up or manufacture dirt on Biden or his son.

So everything’s good, right?

Mulvaney has that rodent look and vibe, so Pizza Rat would always come to mind when I saw him. I would now like to apologize to Pizza Rat.

Nice distraction from the fact we just handed over northern Syria to Turkey and have agreed to “facilitate” the removal of the Kurds. If you’ve read any of the on-the-ground stuff you know how messed up this is. The Kurds have no intention of leaving; we’re going to be doing this at gunpoint.

LIES LIES LIES and yet Mulvaney ALLOWED himself to be used to promote them. Not one shred of decency to the man. Don’t ever think differently. He is as complicit as Donnie and all the rest of them that lie to the American public as if we are too stupid to know it is one.

WTF, he claims they would have been forced to give the aid money anyway, but then claims they often negotiate to release the same money??

Also, I believe the Ukrainian President indicated they wanted to buy more than Congress authorized, when the personal quid pro quo was mentioned by Trump (again), so he did not address this scenario specifically anyway.

Gobsmacked again. I thought I was too old for this any more.

So Mulvaney has now moved from “no quid pro quo” to “well, yeah, quid pro quo but it definitely wasn’t about Biden” because there is near universal agreement that coercing a foreign country to accuse a political rival of wrongdoing by blocking their congressionally mandated funds is unethical and illegal.

Good luck with that dodge, Mick.

Late update: So Micky talks to Trump, who says the “yeah, quid pro quo, no big” line isn’t working, go back to saying “no quid pro quo.” Sure enough, being the duplicitous tool he is, he does the flip-flop.

They’re all so utterly shameless.

“Did he also mention to me in passing the corruption related to the DNC server? Absolutely,” Mulvaney said…

Trying to get it out there before the SDNY counter-intelligence subpoena arrives?

I agree with Yglesias on this one. They have now decided to simply brazen this out. They are all in on publicly announcing and flaunting their corruption and illegality. They are calling our collective bluff. None of this is stupidity or gaffs. This is them saying, “FU and your legality. This is now our corner.” The question is whether each of us–from the Congress on down–has the will to respond, taking to the streets when necessary.

Oh Mulva, you’re not supposed to say the quiet parts out loud. :joy:

Did you volunteer to be the fall guy or did you just pull the short straw?

Indeed. And while they’re proclaiming how right and normal it is to solicit political aid from foreign countries, even our adversaries, they’re hell-bent on indicting the Democrats for doing it. We’ve got some doubleplusgood doublethinkers in the White House, no?
