I can’t help thinking that the Republicans are hoping that they don’t have to take a vote (at least in the Senate) until after the deadline for someone to submit their name to primary the sitting Republican Senator. If they no longer have to “fear” the primary possibility, they can vote against Trump with little fear of arousing the base against themselves (hoping, of course, that Trump will be gone by Election Day and they can wholeheartedly support the Republican nominee!)

The thing is, guys, the President was clear in saying that there was no quid pro quo. It was just he was asking for something in return for something else, and he doesn’t know what quid pro quo means so it couldn’t have been that. Fake news!

My guess is that there isn’t a Republican that can get them worked up like Trump and that they will punish the Republicans for letting their hero go down. Whatever the case, their response will be reflexive rather than contemplative because that is how they live their lives.

I just don’t see him resigning.
I also can’t imagine that with the case Dems will put on, that the Senate wouldn’t convict. It’s been an awful three years for the country and Repubs just can’t bring themselves to be critical of the base inciter. So I’m not holding out any hope for saner minds to prevail.

Am I the only person who keeps thinking that tRump’s plan all along (per his Boss Putin’s orders) was to pull the military assistance rug out from under Ukraine after President Zelenskyy gave him exactly what he demanded? After all, as Ambassador Taylor points out, time was getting dangerously close to the end of the fiscal year—meaning the appropriation authorization for Ukraine would expire and have to start over from zero.
Meanwhile, the Russian military would continue pounding away at Ukraine’s defenses. Who knows how long before Ukraine would have more of its territory taken away?

Republican Senators are fucked no matter what they do -and they know it. Even if enough of them decide to kick Trump out of office, he’s not going to just disappear. He’s certainly not going to get over it and shut up. To the contrary, he will continue to be Trump. And he will continue cultivate his followers with on going rallies and twitter feeds. And as a private citizen, the Russians will be free to do all they can to echo his message.
