I suspect that Alito’s father would have been deemed insufficiently white to benefit from the privileges of whiteness. Alito is no different than Thomas in that regard.

These folks believe in genetic predisposition correct? Do you think they do genealogical research on the candidates they nominate for SC? If they did then they must have found George Jeffreys in Roberts ancestry. Makes you shudder to think what they found in Alito’s closet.

Maybe we’re underwater because of the racism? I don’t feel superior, but 77 million people voted for an obviously racist, sexist, adjudicated rapist and probable pedophile. They can say they didn’t vote for this all they want, but it rings hollow. That 16 to 30 percent are the people who “Aren’t racists” but don’t give a shit if they support racism, I find it hard to draw a distinction.
While the first part of your statement is true, the second half is pure speculation on your part.

I think there are a number of explanations, including but not limited to:
- Disgust with politicians generally.
- Disgust with Democrats specifically over the rather anemic response to Trump’s reign of error.
- Anger about specific actions by particular Democrats.
- Residual anger about Biden.
- Belief that Democrats represent some version of GOP Lite.

I actually thought Biden did a good job as President. He should have declared he wasn’t seeking reelection earlier, but he suffered from the same unwillingness to retire as many in his generation, me included.
While MAGA is a center of racism, misogyny, and religious bigotry, not all of the people who voted for Trump are obvious racists, misogynists or white Christian Nationalists. Elections are won in the margins. Democrats lost a lot of young people, Hispanics and even black people. The thing they have in common is they are all struggling and don’t believe Democratic politicians give a shit about them. Instead of talking about how to attract those younger voters, the party is laser focused on the greatest hits from 60 years ago.
Want to get more people involved in politics, increase the number in the house 5 fold. Make it possible for someone not a millionaire to get elected.

Those are all good points. What do they have in common? One way or another they reflect a disconnect between the masses and the political class. What is the key difference between average Americans and the political class–money. It is so damn expensive to run that most people can’t afford to participate. Rich people or people with rich patrons are the only ones who need to apply. That political class still plays the same old hits long after the nation has moved on. They wonder why nobody is putting money in the jukebox.

That’s true, the problems are different, but those greatest hits are still problems. I’m willing to go after the younger voters, and I’m willing to say that in the long run The Greatest Generation, The Silent Generation and the Baby Boomers have all failed of their promise. But that is akin to saying it’s time to let the next generations to fail.
As I said, they’re OK with those things, and I struggle to find a meaningful distinction. Silence is assent, whatever the attraction {Current Occupant} / MAGA / The GOP had was a bigger appeal than the racism, misogyny and White Christian Nationalism were repellent.
White superiority is institutionalized in Louisiana. The Voting Rights Act of 1965 was intended to dismantle that institution.

And now the VRA is dead.
We talk about the collapse of institutions in an autocratic takeover, but here we have a case of institutional strengthening.

Your post deserves more attention. The “towards revolution” will hopefully commence after the mid-terms. Progressives will have to win the day if the country is to move forward. The Corporate Dems playing their middle game will always, by default, be leaving the door open to more Republican madness only two years down the road.

Kamala made a big run at the younger generations - help with student loans, access to healthcare, programs to help with first time home buyers, jobs, unions. She went to college campuses and encouraged voter registration - students showed up to events in droves. BUT, when it came time to vote, they mostly decided they had other things they’d rather do. Politicians appeal to the olds because the olds vote. It is past time for millennials, Gen Z, and the first of the Gen Alphas to grow up and participate. Otherwise, they have no right to complain when their needs are not met.

The proverbial deck is now so heavily stacked against Dems that we may never hold enough power to reform this highly corrupted court. Guessing even if Dems gain enough seats to successfully impeach Trump and his goons, the Roberts court will do all it can to nullify such actions.
None of this is new to her. She’s had a lifetime of putting such nonsense aside, and getting to business.
