Simmering Voting Rights Fight Comes To A Head In Senate Hearing

As Republican state legislatures across the country take up restrictive voting bills after the extremely high-turnout 2020 election cycle, Democrats are seeing the need to codify voting rights in law as absolutely critical.

It’s the “current rules” that are the problem.

Bring on Yertle’s so-called nuclear winter and blow up the filibuster.

The sooner this bill is put on the floor and voted on, the sooner we can move on to other needed reforms. Dems must triple inspect the bill for flaws that would allow courts to negate laws (learn from ACA.) Tic-toc! Time is the most fleeting of resources.

And so the real battle in 2020 begins. It will end with the filibuster dramatically reformed and this bill passed because HR-1 or something like it is necessary to protect American democracy from the insanity of Republican politicians.

After he left the hearing room, Schumer dodged a question about whether he’s talked to Sen. Joe Manchin (D-WV), currently the only Democrat who hasn’t co-sponsored S1.

In my opinion this is the most important legislative bill since the voting rights act of 1965 and that is only because it is the voting rights act of 1965.

Whatever else happens, whatever accomplishments Democrats and Biden accomplish over the next 2 years, if they fail to pass a voting rights act to advance majority rule over Republican attempts to lock in minority rule, in the end nothing else, no other accomplishments, will matter.

Precisely.

Mass voter suppression is the GOP’s endgame. If we don’t pass this or something similar, they will likely succeed and Democrats can give up on their majority being able to govern for a decade or more.

No wonder his fee fees are hurt and he’s talking about nuclear winter. He’s just not important enough to waste Biden’s time. How does it feel to be put in your proper place, slime bucket?

Power grab? He isn’t majority leader anymore and he has made his implacable opposition to anything the Democrats want absolutely crystal clear. Why would Biden invite him to the White House. What an entitled pussy.

As Wicker started his time, he berated Klobuchar for running the committee “like he’s never seen in 13 years” by cutting off Blunt.

“Excellent,” Klobuchar responded, saying she would be nothing but fair.

The Senate is under new management. The GOP better get used to it.

Rs think they’re the only ones allowed to “clog up” the judicial system. LOL.

They haven’t even considered not passing idiotic restrictions on voting.
