Legal experts and former prosecutors have been raking Attorney General Bill Barr and the Justice Department over the coals ever since the DOJ asked in a court filing Tuesday night to take over President Donald Trump’s defense in writer E. Jean Carroll’s personal lawsuit against him.
If I had to highlight only one statement, I suppose it would be Ellie Honig’s:
“Every time you think Bill Barr has gone as far as he can possibly go to turn DOJ into the President’s own private law firm to politicize DOJ, he goes a little lower.”
The only part I’m not entirely sure about is the “a little.”
You have to ask yourself, why was Monica Lewinsky constant 24 hour news like Benghazi and Hillary’s emails and this can’t get any traction. Is it because the main stream media, well you fill in the blank.
If this egregious enough, then won’t some attorneys formally file with state bars where he is licensed to investigate whether Barr should keep his law license(s)?
I still can’t fathom what the upside is for Barr and Republicans in defending Trump like this…all this does is feed into the idea that he’s trying to become a dictator, immune to justice, and they are perfectly willing to do his bidding no matter how it undoes our justice system. It’s just absurd at this point how far Barr has worked to twist the justice system into an arm of the Republican party…and it is worrisome how much father he’ll go in order to try to get a Trump win in November.
That’s what this is, they just want to avoid something bad about Trump coming out right before the election…what active things are they going to do to damage Biden and Harris? That’s the thing to worry about right now.
“Every time you think Bill Barr has gone as far as he can possibly go to turn DOJ into the President’s own private law firm to politicize DOJ, he goes a little lower.”
They will have to explain in court how saying “she’s not my type” is part of Trump’s official duties.
Then there is the DNA matter, which I think is what they are really afraid of.
The practical problem for Carroll and her lawyers is the disparity of resources. If and when they object to the DOJ’s involvement, that objection will be expensive. If and when the DOJ appeals, to the Supreme Court if necessary, with taxpayers funding the appeal, that becomes financially prohibitive for the private litigant. It’s a total fucking quagmire.
